I beg to differ

If an object is held halfway through a portal, and one end closes, the object remains stuck in the remaining portal, only halfway in conventional reality.

So. Is the remainder buried in the material behind the portal, or somewhere else?

But if the portal we are talking about is like Portal portals, then you move through instantly and there would be virtually nothing to get left stuck in the portal - just halves of you on either side. Either you split and flal apart, or you'd stay in place and still die because the wall suddenly reappeared inside you.
