Social stigma, it should be free to everyone.

That's not what she was talking about.

It's hard to find the right one as far as female birth control, because you're basically detouring a major biological function that most humans are built and wired to do. And because the entire system for females is internal, the hardware on our end is usually invasive, and it can be difficult to figure out how to safely fuck with your body chemistry.

Unless you're Catholic, there is little to no stigma about birth control in the western first world.

There might not be a social stigma about birth control among the majority of people in the US, but it sure as hell seems like there is with all the politicians rallying against it. Rush Limbaugh comes to mind.

I really don't understand how people think the other BC options are easier than The Pill. It's so low-impact, even has beneficial side effects. I don't even know if there are bad side effects, if there are I haven't gotten anything noticeable.

The only real problem with it is remembering to take it, which shouldn't be that hard. And once you start taking it regularly accidentally skipping a day is almost never a big deal. Especially considering the hormones in it work in like 3 different ways to stop pregnancy from happening.
I suppose cheddar could be an issue but my insurance covers it 100%. Dunno if that's a common thing.

I know, different strokes, but in my experience a lot of girls I've talked to have this odd worry about the pill. Implants and IUDs work just fine, they just seem too invasive for me, personally.

Re: social stigma: There's a lot of stigma against BC in the religious conservative community (small town Texas comes to mind). Catholics don't believe in using it of course, but a lot of other Christians are against having birth control available to teens because "it'll encourage them to have more premarital sex". Where I'm from it's not uncommon to hear stuff like "well if that girl has sex and gets pregnant that's what she gets for being a slut in the first place".

It's just so backwards. So many of these folks balk at anything sex-related being around their children. Including sex ed that isn't abstinence-only. And people like these are still huge chunk of the voter base.

a lot of women DO have harmful side effects from the pill. a friend of mine got blood clots and almost died. my sister became extremely irritable and moody and violent. one type of bc i was on for a while randomly started making me VIOLENTLY ILL after taking it. it can take a long time for the chemicals to leave your system when you want to have children. everyone reacts differently to different types and some women can't be on the pill but and IUD is the best thing ever.

and no, it's not easy for everyone to remember to take the pills. part of the reason i'm switching is i keep forgetting pills because of something like i went to a party and forgot to take them til noon the next day and by that time my hormones were all whacked out and i was moody all day. sometimes it's just hard to remember. some types like the minipill you HAVE to take at the same time or it doesn't work. shit's annoying. an implant is technically more invasive but it's a tiny rod in my arm i don't have to even THINK about with a much higher success rate than the pill with all the same beneficial hormones.

I've never had mood swings when I forget my pill. I take Ortho-tricyclen Lo, my doctor said it was one of the lower-impact kinds (its just varying levels of hormones based on what week of your cycle it is), so forgive me if I didn't think of actual drastic side effects some pills have.

Does anyone else ever randomly get itchy all over for seemingly no reason? Nothing seems to be irritating me, and I don't think my skin is that dry. Right now I'm itchy all over my legs so maybe I missed spots when shaving, but it hadn't bothered me much until a few minutes ago.

Seems to happen more often when its humid, maybe its just tiny amounts of sweat or something. Maybe its something psychological and it happens when I'm stressed sometimes? I don't know, its really weird.

My back itches when a stray hair tickles it, and my nose itches almost constantly, which I've chalked up to allergies. Other than those, I'm just a...generally itchy person. The skin under my bra straps itches a lot, my eyes get itchy sometimes, and my scalp is so itchy that on several occasions I've made it bleed a tiny bit. Unfortunately for my scalp problem nothing seems to help it--I've tried regular shampoo, baking soda, dandruff shampoo, I even got a prescription shampoo from a doctor once because he claimed I had a tiny fungal infection.

On top of that I also get random itches over my whole body that I don't know the cause of.

Would you believe that scientists are still puzzling over how 'itch' even works? Like yeah it does have some purpose but most of the time we get it for seemingly no purpose.

Nachalnik, you won't sound like you're looking for attention by telling your doctor.
There is a chance you would sound like you're looking for attention if you were telling everyone but your doctor.

The fact that you are approaching this with the intent to address it with a doctor, and if necessary treat it already speaks that you are concerned about your health, not an immature hypochondriac.

do you think i should tell my mom i'm planning to get a implant sometime this year?

i wasn't going to but i heard they can have side effects so maybe it'd be easier if i didn't keep it a secret if something went wrong?

and i mean it would have to come out again in a few years so i wouldn't be able to keep it a secret then....
