They're both GTX, sorry, should have clarified.

delete/bump.

Can anyone suggest a good place to buy outdated computer components? I want to try setting up cheap computer to hitch up to my sound system so I don't have to run it off my iPhone all the time.
The only 'luxury' components that really matter to me are an LAN port and audio out, so it can go as low-spec as possible.

Can't you just hitch up your sound system to your current pc?

Just go to garage sales and look for a used computer. You can get a Windows XP one for less than twenty bucks.

They're on opposite sides of the room, so running the cable would be a hassle.
This is more of a vanity project anyway, I'd hoped to program an interface for it that would run on startup and limit the computer to nothing but playing music, just for the sake of doing it/practice.

The yard sale thing sounds like a good plan, assuming there are any more this summer.

There are sites that allow you to pick from a list of pre-selected parts, but they're more expensive since every laptop is custom-made (at least partially).
Might be worth it if you're looking for specific specs that stock laptops don't offer, such as an SSD for the OS + a regular HDD for storage.

Other than the very miniscule customization options on websites like Dell or Sony, not really. Building one yourself is incredibly complicated and you can't really go out and buy like, laptop motherboards or bases or screens. If you were super tech and hardware savvy, you might be able to out of parts of another laptop. but its nothing like building a desktop.

oh, ok then.

I need a nice laptop that can play games, even if that is sacrilege, I just cannot use a desktop for all the travelling I do.

Any ideas?

I'm going to get lynched for this, but what about a tablet? There are a fair few decent games out there, I'm sure.

Otherwise, you're going to have to spend a good bit for decent graphical capabilities. My sister's laptop is just from Christmas and can only hit medium settings in Oblivion; it was around $400? So if you want the newest games you'll have to go much higher than that.

EDIT: Also aw yeah bought my new graphics card
It's not the best ever, but it's at least not a major bottleneck like my current one.

My processor and RAM are both set for at least another year of gaming, so as long as this card lasts that long (it will) I'll be pop flyin' with it.

Discussing individual models is pointless because there's a fuckton of them, you might as well set a pricepoint and start comparing models in that range, the most important thing being the graphics card. Regardless, we're talking about $700+ here, assuming by "gaming" you mean "running games from the past 5 years on decent settings at 30+ fps"
DO NOT get a BRAND GAMING laptop, those are marked the fuck up thanks to the brand and a case that looks like it was stolen from a spaceship. Might as well burn half your budget with an expensive lighter and act like you're better than those who did it with a cheap lighter.

I got a laptop that was about $850 last year that runs Skyrim on medium, albeit choppy. If you want current gen graphics you'll need about a 1000 I think. Spend a lot of time comparing benchmarks and such, it will be worth it. Don't get a tablet.

If that's above your budget, pretty much any new laptop with a half-decent graphics card will be able to run older games, and there are plenty of those to keep you occupied.

Can anyone help me get my graphics card running?

It's "working" insofar as I've got a cable plugged into it and the it's displaying stuff onscreen, but I can't get any drivers working.
Windows is saying "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I've rebooted, reinstalled drivers, and removed the card several times, but it just doesn't seem to want to work.
Windows recognizes it as a GTX 560, but when I try to access the NVidia drivers I've installed, it insists that I'm not even using an NVidia GPU.

Any ideas?

Control Panel > Mouse > Tapping tab > Turn off Tap Off When Typing.
