Alternatively, take the initiative. If it doesn't work that's too bad, but there's plenty of fish in the sea. At least you'll have closure. That is, unless you really value your friendship with this girl.

Ugh, why does this girl have to be so great and awesome and cool and pretty much exactly my type

and also be 14?

Girl, just pick one or the other.

But seriously, help. It's hard not to think about her in a romantic light. I just want to be friends with her, at least for the time being.

Yeah at such a young age, that's a bit too much of an age difference imo

If you're still interested in her as you two get older, maybe something could happen though, if you wanted it to anyway.

Don't let that stop you from considering other people to be in a relationship with, of course.

But like

I don't want to neglect her, I want to be a good friend to her.

But that requires me to interact with her.

Which is dangerous, especially considering how the kind of person I can be. I get REALLY affectionate around people that I like, and sometimes I take it too far.

UUUUUUUGH

This is where you imagine me slamming my head against my desk.

okay first things first:

a romantic relationship is so unbelievably illegal and she has barely hit puberty. but romantic feelings aside, if you are overly-affectionate to people you're friends with, you're going to have to reign it in around here. even if it's harmless, people can take it the wrong way and you can land in some serious trouble.

Well I suppose you'll either have to practice some restraint. It won't exactly be fun but it's a thing that's necessary in your predicament.

Don't outwardly show TOO much affection because people (ESPECIALLY YOUNG TEENAGE GIRLS OH MY GOD) can take it the complete wrong way, or go way overboard with it.

Seriously, guys. Not funny. I didn't say I pursuing a relationship, all I said was I sometimes view her in a romantic light, MILDLY, and that I want to not do that anymore.

I'm not a child molester. Geez.

Hey man no one's making fun of you. No one's saying it makes you a child molester or anything, we're just making sure you don't see fit to make, like, romantic advances towards her is all.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've seen college freshmen date 14 year olds before. It's not horribly uncommon or anything.

I must say though, that it's probably a pretty good bet that, if you get to know this girl better, you'll realize she's probably a bit immature in nature, and not someone you'd wholly consider romance material until she gets older. I may be wrong; some 14 year olds don't strike me as entirely immature or annoying, but most do.

It's funny how the older two people get, the bigger the age gap between the two can be without anyone caring about it.
When I was 18, Crispy was 13/14. That really wouldn't have been too great. Now ze's almost 18 and I'm 22 and no one gives a crap anymore.

So, I'd say wait and be friends.
