My older cat doesn't follow a feeding schedule--it's not really possible to put him on one, since he's outside on his own most of the day. Besides, he'd probably stress out if he couldn't have any food when he wanted it. He's old and curmudgeonly and set in his ways, like someone's endearingly racist grandma.

my indoor/outdoor cat got slapped into a feeding schedule to drop his weight (two guesses what made him fat!) when he was 8 or 9 and he transitioned pretty well actually. of course he may or may not have been sneaking off to eat at someone else's house until his hips got too arthritic to jump over the fence, but his diet worked and he slimmed up. and he was also grumpy and looooooooved his foodbowl more than life. and also half oriental so he has that /voice/ whenever he wanted attention. we went crazy for a while but he also didn't die from a heart attack or diabetes which i think is successful haha

Never had a feeding schedule for our cats. The older one lately though I do only fill her dish once a day so she paces herself. The younger ones though have free access to food and are just fine.

Eh, old Hopper isn't really fat, not anymore at least. When he was younger he was pretty pudgy, but he dropped a few pounds. He was about 11 pounds when I took him to get his most recent shots.

Well you can either figure out that life is full of unpleasant things that you can't avoid or you can continue to be miserable and always wonder if the medicine would have helped.

Seriously, just grit your teeth and take the medicine.

Well, before answering that, I'd like to ask another question first. What is it about taking the tablets that you hate?

I hate taking tablets because of the actual physical sensation of having to swallow them, so I put them on my tongue and rinse them back with a whole glass of water.

When I was a tyke, I'd take a sip of water, tilt my head back, and drop the pill on the water and swallow
You also might chew up a cracker and toss it back before you swallow or smth

assuming it's the physical act of taking it that you're talking about anyway

I find that the best way to swallow tablets and pills easily is to pretend that they're tiny, thieving babies who only want to steal your throne from you.

What

Anyway, what helped me the most with taking tablets/pills is using soda.

man it always weirds me out when people take pills with liquid

I can't have solid stuff in my drinks

even like floating bits of cereal in milk makes me a little nauseous

^ the way i do it is i put the pill like in the back of my mouth and then swallow right as the liquid goes in, so its not floating around or anything haha. works best with a straw.

i hate taking pills though i still taste them even with soda >< it's a good thing my bc pills are like the size of a flea.

Pills are my preferred method of medicine-taking. I'm a huge wuss about any other kind of medicine. When I was young my mom was always trying to force me to drink medicine when I got sick, and not only was the medicine awful, but sometimes we'd spend hours locked up in the bathroom at night with mom trying to make me drink it. Also, I have a really sensitive gag refles when it comes to medicines. I could not hold down a dose of Robitussen when I had the flu one time.

My mom also tried chewable medicine, like tylenol. At first I thought 'hell yeah' because I thought it was going to be like those Flintstone vitamin tablets, the ones that are kind of tangy and fruity. I liked those.

Well, uh, I tried the tylenol...and I threw up. In a Carl's Jr restaurant. I barely had enough time to make it to the bathroom, and I was miserable afterwards.

So we basically came to the conclusion that the only medicine I could really handle is stuff that I couldn't taste. Sometimes mom would give me a spoonful of peanut butter with the tylenol in it, chopped up into little bits. Or a pill in a dab of butter helped, too. Now that I'm older I can just knock back a pill with a glass of water, and I'm not willing to try any other kind of medicine anymore.
