Is Riku Uncle Spoony? The (hopefully) obvious answer to this would be No. Nor is she a proper substitute. However, Spoony has given Riku permission to post in here.
She will also not be making shortbread biscuits. She is here to make brownies on this fine day.
Cooking With Riku (since Spoony has yet to be bothered) :
ORANGE AND BLACK BROWNIES
First things first!
Check to make sure your kitchen is clean.
Hey! Riku's family has not left their massive, unhelpful mess for once! Although there is a sad, lone fork in the wasteland of the stove.
YES.
Wash your hands. No one likes germs in their food. '
I also recommend an apron and comfy footwear. You'll be standing a lot.
And some mad beats make the prep work more enjoyable, yo
On to the cooking!
Preheat your oven to 350F/ 175C
NOW GET THESE INGREDIENTS:
2-1/2 Cups of Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 Tbs Cocoa Powder
1-1/2 tsp Salt
1-3/4 Cups Brown Sugar
1/3 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Cup (or 1 stick) Butter
3 Eggs
2 tsp Vanilla
1-1/2 Cups Semisweet Chips (to be melted)
More Semisweet Chips (unharmed)
OPTIONAL: Yellow and blue/black food dye.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix the Flour, Baking powder, Salt and cocoa.
Riku has just discovered why it is bad to try and whip the flour dust off of the whisk.
Put Brown Sugar, Sugar, Peanut Butter and Butter in a separate mixing bowl.
Riku feels that now is a nice time to demonstrate proper measurement of Brown Sugar.
You take a spoon and pack the brown sugar in as tightly as you can.
Riku has used a clear measuring cup to demonstrate.
It should also come out of the cups in solid blocks.
Now, You blend these four ingredients for about 2 minutes.
then you add the eggs and vanilla, and blend some more.
Riku also feels that now is a good time to remind you that you always put the beater wands in BEFORE you plug in the mixer.
And if you feel the need to clean the deliciousness from the beater wands yourself, remember to take them OUT OF THE MIXER.
AHAHA, WATCH AS RIKU GETS TO PARTAKE OF THE UNCOOKED DELICIOUSNESS.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
After that, you start to add the dry ingredients a little at a time, so that the mixer doesn't poof all over.
Take the 1-1/2 cups of semisweet chips in a bowl and microwave it in 15 second increments until it is totally melted.
Now you separate the batter, and mix the chocolate into one.
After you have it mixed, add the coloring to obtain black and orange color.
Press a thin layer of the black dough into the bottom of a 13x9 inch (or whatever the European equivalent is) pan.
Throw random dollops of the orange and black dough in the pan, then press some more chocolate chips in.
Put in the oven for 20 minutes.
During these 20 minutes, you might take a look at the mess you've made.
(Riku recommends cleaning it.)
If you finish with that, Riku suggests taking this time to do something productive, yet relaxing, such as writing up the text for a cooking thread while sipping iced tea out of a bright green plastic cup.
After the beeper goes off, don't forget to WEAR YOUR OVEN MITTS, FOOL.
Once you're done baking, Do the toothpick test. Stick a toothpick into the center, and pull it out. if it's clean, then the brownies are done.
And TADA!
Orange and Black brownies! Riku's don't look very Orange and black at present, partly because of her camera, and partly because she lacked sufficient food dye.
