YES to J.D. Salinger and Orson Scott Card.
I'm in love with Catcher in the Rye, mostly because of Salinger's colloquial style, but Holden kind of fascinates me, as well.

Also, Richard Matheson. I Am Legend made me cry, and some of his short stories are outright freaky.
