Yeah, I'd say delete it. It's just stalking a pathetic man at this point.

I at least moved it to Media Swamp in the meantime. Deleting threads is not something I like to do unless it's a single-post thread (and even then I prefer merging them into the appropriate thread if applicable). We can lock it, though.

Move long threads to be deleted into a mod-only forum where you make a bot to delete them one page at a time

And then the bot goes power-hungry and starts deleting random pages in random threads all over the forum. And then apocalypse.

I've noticed that moving threads seems to fix the page jump back problem. Can we test this out with the Funny Picture thread or something?

I like the mod graveyard idea, but remove the deleting process. Deleting big topics results in bad things.

For the bigger threads (how would we define that? Certain number of pages?) that need to be locked or deleted for whatever reason, I would suggest that instead of deleting them, or filing them away in some secret dark place, we have a subforum or something like with public access, and it can be solely for archiving big threads. Mass post deletion tends to cause BAD TIMES for the forum, and some threads (particularly bigger ones) tend to have moments and such in them that would be worth preserving for future generations of forumites.

There would have to be specific rules, though. Like for the old TMI threads: Would people WANT those archived, and would the posts that led to their deletion/locking/whathaveyou be deleted?

If a thread is bad enough that it would warrant deletion were it a feasible option, it doesn't really need to be archived for viewing, particularly something like the old TMI thread

Threads wouldn't really need to be archived if they are locked. They'll eventually drop off the front page and out of view.

In regards to threads that would normally be deleted due to the drama content... I would expect everyone to know not to dredge the drama up again so it doesn't matter if the thread is viewable or not. If someone is childish enough to do it anyway then I'm sure a mod can tell them to shut their child mouth.

The graveyard forum isn't a bad idea exactly. But it sounds like extra work for the proletariats.

Old threads should probably be evaluated case-by-case. Some just need to be ended, so lock them and let them drop off. Some might need to be forgotten forever and be deleted.

Deleting threads kinda makes the forum implode though. And I think Katie has to make the Graveyard subforum if we wanted to go that route. At least, I think I recall reading that she was the one who made Media Swamp.

The old TMI threads were just an example of popular threads that got deleted. I know there is no chance they would be preserved, since the reason for deletion is one of potentially illegal implications.

Deleting the offending posts and just locking the thread would seem less taxing on the forum than deleting the entire thread though.

I'd suggest yearly updates int he proletariats, as in, Perhaps a democracy to choose them to give other people a chance

but no that would be stupid and no one would listen.
