Fuan no Tane is kind of a creepy read, especially at 1 o clock in the morning. A collection of horror short stories, supposedly based on urban legends. It's where that one image comes from.

I feel weird for this, but I actually don't care much for stories like that. I dislike unsanswered question, so when the story just ended with the brother's body in the well all I could think is that it was half finished, and that the other half explains why there's a double walking around.

That's where your imagination comes into play.
What if his brother didn't actually kill the monster but just a random wolf? What if the monster was just waiting for someone to come to slay it, just to take over their place to possibly kill the whole village without much hassle?
