Agreed. Next ones are getting deleted.

Eh, I think it's fine for formal occasions, a wedding or a day at the races. Even then, sometimes you just feel like a top hat. I know I've gotten done up in a bowler and tailcoat just to get coffee and breakfast with people before.

Bowler hats are neat, I want one.

Make sure you've got the right kind of face/head, that's where people trip up most with hats. Bowlers work for rounder faces and generally larger heads, as opposed to something like a fedora which goes better with a thinner, taller, sharp face.

Maybe a fedora would be better.

Well, those are hardly your only options. I've got a porkpie that I love to bits which is good for being a bit more casual, and people always seem to forget homburgs when they're looking. There's a whole lot of lids out there to pick from.

My best (and favorite to date) hat has to be this flat cap I've got. It's brown canvas, but it's only drawback has to be that it has a button on the front.

Yeah, caps are good. Used to have a patchwork leather newsboy I wore to uni, but I ended up getting tired of it. Just like a top hat can't really pull off casual, caps can't really pull off formal, unfortunately.

Living in/near Melbourne must have it's advantages for you, Spoon. We actually have races, we have the 'race that stops the nation' even.

I can't imagine living in say... Broome or Cairns and then trying to look like one just stepped out of a David Jones Spring Carnival catalogue.

I love Spring Carnival.

You know, Melbourne Cup Day is one of my favourite things about it here. Everybody gets the day off work so they can put on a silly hat and watch horses run around for a bit. It's utterly ridiculous. I wish more holidays were like that.

Well not EVERYONE gets it off. Someone has to sell the booze.

But that said, even without the public holiday, it's like a week of big races, and pretty much the month leading up to that is good enough to get fancy.

Though I don't think enough blokes wear hats. Some of them put on a nice suit and shiny shoes, then ruin the look wearing some wanker surfie sunnies.

I enjoy wearing hats, but I find it hard to determine if they actually look good on me.

I feel the same. I like hats, but I don't think I look good in them.

Yeah, they're not for everyone I guess. Hats are pretty much the only thing I like to try on before I buy in terms of clothes; everything else I'm pop flyin' to just buy on the net. They're hard to really match up with your wardrobe a lot of the time, and really, it usually doesn't actually add a whole lot to an outfit despite the effort.
