You totally should, though. It's spiritually uplifting. Brings you one step closer to achieving Nirvana.
I don't personally ascribe to any of the metaphysical stuff about crystals, I just find visually interesting minerals/metals fun to look at and read about, both chemically and historically. And I might eventually make some jewelry out of some of them, particularly for a couple of my friends who really DO follow the ideas about traditions regarding usage of crystals. I just think they're pretty, but if they feel like they can use it somehow, then hey, they'll like the gift even more.
It makes me pop flyin' to just sort through my already fairly sizeable collection mineral and metallic specimens and gems every now and then. I'm rather fond of acquiring rough forms of semi-precious stones or even precious stones (I have about 100 carats of emeralds that have only been processed enough to cut them out of their matrix, for example). The textures of the inclusions and cleavage, as well as the depth of color on the stones that are an impractical shape/quality for jewelry make them more interesting to look at, and therefore more satisfying. Although I have a parcel of rough rubies that my sister has dubbed "the red raisins" because of their shape and how they're just barely translucent in their current form unless they're held up against sunlight.
Hell, even in my wedding ring, even though it is gem quality and cut, Sloth and I deliberately chose an emerald with a fairly substantially feathering inclusion, because the color was fucking amazing and the inclusions add a great visual texture when it's in sunlight.
