I don't personally ascribe to any of the metaphysical stuff about crystals, I just find visually interesting minerals/metals fun to look at and read about, both chemically and historically. And I might eventually make some jewelry out of some of them, particularly for a couple of my friends who really DO follow the ideas about traditions regarding usage of crystals. I just think they're pretty, but if they feel like they can use it somehow, then hey, they'll like the gift even more.

It makes me pop flyin' to just sort through my already fairly sizeable collection mineral and metallic specimens and gems every now and then. I'm rather fond of acquiring rough forms of semi-precious stones or even precious stones (I have about 100 carats of emeralds that have only been processed enough to cut them out of their matrix, for example). The textures of the inclusions and cleavage, as well as the depth of color on the stones that are an impractical shape/quality for jewelry make them more interesting to look at, and therefore more satisfying. Although I have a parcel of rough rubies that my sister has dubbed "the red raisins" because of their shape and how they're just barely translucent in their current form unless they're held up against sunlight.

Hell, even in my wedding ring, even though it is gem quality and cut, Sloth and I deliberately chose an emerald with a fairly substantially feathering inclusion, because the color was fucking amazing and the inclusions add a great visual texture when it's in sunlight.

Hell, you could open up your own little mineralogy museum.

I am also a geology nerd so I would totally enjoy a collection of crystals and stuff. ...I wonder if I could get the school to pay for it for my classroom...

I might post a picture of the shinies once the new ones get here. And oooh that would be super cool if you could! They might say it's not necessary for the curriculum when there are images available, but it doesn't hurt to try!

If you're doing one of the more advanced courses where you might do a few chemistry overlap lessons, you could discuss how out of all the minerals we've currently discovered, diamond and peridot are the only two crystalline ones to form beneath the crust, rather than in it, due to their chemical makeup requiring more heat and pressure to form, and having examples for that might be a good thing (peridot specimens are usually fairly inexpensive, even for large-ish pieces if you have lower quality crystal). And of course, talking about how quartz, being a silicate is the most abundant mineral in the crust. Also pretty inexpensive, even for large, clear specimens, and in regions that have historically had a lot of volcanic activity, it's super easy to find large chunks of more opaque quartz for examples.

In fact, when I was a kid, one of the few reasons I used to go outside was that I actually used to go hunting for chunks of quartz (virtually all of them that didn't require serious digging were opaque, but they were still sparkly and shimmery on the surface) in my back yard and up on the hillside on my dad's property. I had a pretty sizable collection by the time I was 12. I'd wager the box probably weighed 10-15 pounds. But after I fucked up and clogged the bathroom sink by trying to rinse too much dirt and mud off of a new haul, my mom threw them out once I'd left for my dad's house, because she didn't want "dirty rocks in her house". I wasn't ever able to find most of them, so I have no idea where the hell she threw them, unless she just shoved them into the dumpster. Although my dad felt really bad about that when he heard, and so he gave me this huge chunk of quartz in a granite matrix that was almost as big as my head, that he'd found while mowing the orchard some ten years prior. I don't know how no one found it during the previous forty years of mowing, but it's still at his house, hanging out in his office until I have a good place to put it (nowhere good in an apartment with fairly lightweight shelves).

I start a new job at 8 am at a Honda dealership that's part of the same auto group, so I don't think I have to put up with any paperwork. Also, I have reason to suspect that I don't have to put up with rap music all day, like I did at the Nissan dealership. It's also my understanding that it has a/c in the detail shop.

Pretty much got a job for when I move. A new Wendy's is opening up about 15 minutes away from where I'm moving to, just talked to the HR for there, said its looking really good, since I don't have to have any extra training and already have so many years behind my belt.

I cannot correctly express how excited I am.

SHINIES GOT HERE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
LEAK IS FINALLY FIXED SO I MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE THE CLOSET AGAIN DOUBLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

(seriously, there was a leak that was flooding my closet, near the water heater, so they had to tear a bunch of drywall out and remove the carpet, and I basically wasn't allowed to use my closet (or the half of my room that all of my closet had to go into, before the former roommate moved out and we got that space to use as storage) for three months, as they started to work on it, and then stopped with no explanation for about 2 months. and now it's suddenly getting done yaaaaaaay)

I got home from a long shift of work today to Riku, a lovely and delicious meal, and fanciful music.
We ate dinner in fancy clothes and it was gr8. Best wife. Greatest friend!

I make dinner on Saturday, watch as I somehow burn the apartment down.

My friend that I hope something happens with soon and I got rather drunk and video chatted for an hour and it was some of the most fun I have had in ages.

Also typing whilst drunk, everything is being typed so smoothly and I barely have to make any corrections, I should totally do this more often I have so many HFY ideas that are begging to be typed out.

I think it means "hell fuckin' YEAH!"

But that's just based on the context, as I'd never seen anyone use that before.

It could also mean "hamster-fisted yodeler," but I kind of doubt that.
