Cases don't get taken to the Supreme Court when the states pass laws. Several states already have explicitly outright banned gay marriage and the Supreme Court isn't saying anything. In the meantime, people's rights are being infringed upon because the legislature is run by old, closed-minded men.

Cases get taken to the Supreme Court when people file lawsuits against said laws. That is the Supreme Court's ultimate job, to decide if a law is constitutional.

There's already a few cases working their way through the California Courts of Appeals.

You see, I'm sure the majority of people in America would approve of gay marriage.
The problem is that those people aren't in power, and most of the accepting people are generally younger people who are below voting age, and those that are above that age either aren't registered to vote, or just don't vote at all.

The demographic which is generally the most tolerant is 18-25, which are college-educated people who are predisposed toward arguing with the government. Unfortunately, this is also a rather lazy demographic, not bothering to go out and vote when it matters. What we end up with is a very frustrated country full of people wondering why they can't do more to help. You can do more to help, it's called PAYING ATTENTION TO WHOM YOU'RE VOTING FOR. Make sure that rich bastard agrees with you on issues that are important to you; otherwise, why the fuck are you voting for him?
