Cosplay has always seemed interesting to me but I'd never be able to afford doing it myself so I'll just stick with admiring some of the best cosplays I happen to come across
True, but sometimes the true core of cosplay is to find the best items for the least amount of cheddar.
Take my Link costume for example (I don't want to clutter the thread with pics i already posted),
All of the materials to make the outfit and shield were from Walmart. (and somehow ppl are surprised to hear it).
Green undershirt shirt 3 pack (to make the tunic and hat) $5.00
White undershirt $3.00
Stretchy Yoga pants $10.00
Boots (uggs knockoff) $15.00
Shoulder Belt (already owned the waist belt) $5.00
Hard foam $5.00
Gray duct tape $5.00
Plastic sword $9.00
Total cost: $57.00
So for about the price of a new copy of
Twilight Princess, I made a Link cosplay.
To make cosplays on a budget, you really have to look at the person you're cosplaying as and think, "
what article of clothing most resembles their outfit?"
After that, it is much easier to start with that article of clothing as a base and add the variations to it until it resembles the subject's outfit.
For example, Link's tunic looks a lot like a shirt, so I got a shirt and added a wide skirt like base.
