I kind feel like 'that guy' for pointing this out, but... I noticed that TheOtherMC has a green name but isn't a moderator?

I guess nothing was learned from the previous 'funny joke' when a moderator changed a username's colour for 'a laugh'?

I've got nothing against TheOtherMC but I'm still mildly disappointed in this behaviour - esp. given what happened nary a month (or two) ago.

All that was learned from that other time was "there is a proper timing for jokes" and "some people can't take a joke" which isn't ground to stop making jokes.

It might just be the timing but it doesn't feel right to me.

Something about moderators doing things like that on a whim feels like a first step on the slippery slope to such abuses of moderating powers becoming casual or commonplace.

Makes me feel uneasy.

I don't know why you'd think that, it sounds exaggerated. You must have noticed that other members have usernames with different colours too (Malum, Escargotage, Gryewolf, Dan). A green name could make people think he's a mod but the actual mod list is in the Rules thread.
As for proletariats making jokes on a whim, I've seen joke bans and joke warnings before I was even a mod (hell, I got a warning from The Big Cheese that said "bald" as the reason back then). I can only remember me accidentally banning Crush Bandicoot for longer than I wanted as an incident coming from a joke ban, and that was, say, two years ago.
I gotta say that calling "changing the colour of someone's username for kicks" an abuse of moderating powers is nuts, man. Don't mean to sound insulting, but jokes aren't a getaway drug to abusive bans. If a mod starts acting up there are six other proletariats to deal with them, as well as this thread or the report buttons if members want to report what they believe is a mod abusing their mod powers.
