Heh, when I was growing up the claw/crane machine in the supermarket near my house was stocked by a total idiot.

He piled so much stuff in there I could easily get 3+ toys for ever 50 cents. I'd just swing the crane to hook it into the STACK of toys, then pull them into the prize chute. And then again. And again. And again. And then I grab something, and win that too.


I had a TON of cheapo crap garbage stuffed animals when I was a kid.

Dude, I was a claw machine master when I was a child. When my mom took me to Walmart she'd just let me hang out in the game area usually and I'd take a few dollars with me and rake in the cheaply-made plush toys.

One time I put twenty dollars into a machine (not all at once mind you) and won...about fifteen or more stuffed toys, I don't remember exactly how much. Another time I won two prizes in one go--a lunch box and a black stuffed bear with a cape. The claw hooked both the lunch box's handle and the bear's cape. ANOTHER time I didn't win anything and I threw a huge eight-year-old tantrum because lol sore loser.

My obsession with the game started when a girl I didn't even know won a large stuffed ostrich and gave it to me. I still have that toy, too. It doubles as a puppet!


THE POINT IS I started gambling at an early age.

On topic of claw games, on holiday once my family went to an arcade type place and someone had left one move left on a claw game. There was pretty much no one else around. (Everyone else was pretty much at the connected swimming pool room of the arcade)
So I tried it out and won a little white tiger plushie. Much later on I gave it to my niece and they still have it.

My wife and I went to a carnival about 2 months ago where we saw some crane games. Figured we would try to get something that could at least be scooped up so the claw can actually close underneath it. After 5 tries we got nothing so in out frustration we looked up crane game odds. Aside from the (rather interesting) secrets to winning the game we found articles from interviews of people who made the machines. Anyone who manages to win one of those games are probably the same people who find shinies daily in their Pokemon games

I wish.
I've won crane games. I haven't found a single shiny in the wild in my whole time of playing pokemon since Red and Blue (Even though they started in Gold and Silver.)
And I've had and played through every main game except Emerald and Alpha Sapphire. Multiple times.

The odds can be set by the machine, uh, operator? Owner? Whatever. But if you can hook or push the stuff then the odds can go die.

Also I got my first shiny (barring the Lake of Rage Gyarados in G/S) in Sapphire. It was a Tentacles I fished up outside Mauville. It was totally shit. Second one was a Spinda, and it was p. good.
