Mom's newest friend went and spontaneously decided to rent my family a room for the night since we spent the last month living in an old rundown store building we own but Grandma let it fall to ruin.
So I shall attempt conversational interactions through the forums.

Things to look forward to blaaaaaah.

I have been entertaining myself by playing memories of games in headspace.

Well of course. I suppose it's different in that field than in mine. I had an internship of sorts around when I got my first IT certification and I feel like it helped me get my first paid IT job. Maybe in design it's different though.

I am so glad you're taking my advice on this. More artists need to be paid what they actually deserve. I know far too many people who struggle to make ends meet because clients don't see art as a service worth paying for.

Thank you for saying this. Art and Design jobs deal with this problem daily. People don't understand the amount of work that goes into some of these things, saying "The computer did all the hard stuff" or "My niece can do that, why should I pay you to do it?"

LR, if you want to read something that has some advice on how to broach the topic of payment/how much one should be paid, I recommend reading this short article. In particular is a section regarding what Supaaku said about not working for free.

The website in question is a site that collects "horror stories" from designers and freelancers regarding clients who don't understand and/or take advantage of freelancers, and while that might sound negative, I've actually learned a lot about what to look out for when going into design jobs. They have other articles regarding handling clients, getting your work out there, etc. Take a look if you're interested in that kind of thing.

Thanks a bunch, guys. Definitely going to read up on this stuff.

I actually passed my upper division juries on my first attempt when I didn't think I would. I messed up some glaring things, got thrown off by massive tempo disparities from my accompanist, and then there were a few tight technical things (fuck quiet/decrescendo ascending lines) that I thought would prevent me from passing.
There's one girl who I thought was a technically better player than myself, who has attempted upper divisions at least 4 times now. It's pretty common to have to do it twice.

In case anyone was wondering, a jury is something that all music students do every term (it might be called something different at other universities), where we demonstrate our lesson progress in a kind of 5-10 minute mini recital with feedback from a panel of instructors (hence, jury). Upper Divisions are in the framework of a jury, but it is 25 minutes, and much more intensive. Passing Upper Division one (for 300 level lessons) and Upper Division two (for 400 level lessons) is required in order to complete a music degree.

Upper Divisions consist of:
Lyrical performance
Technical performance
Scale challenge
Possibly rhythm challenge, depending on the panel.
And criticism on the above elements.

Cool! Is it one of those "I am not at liberty to discuss this" jobs or, like, you work in the foodstamps office?

Thanks! And no, the Air Resources Board doesn't exactly have classified information but I'll still probably have to sign one of those things not to give away secrets (like every other job).

I've got a job lined out for me once I go to college. I'm going to be a computer repair person in the disability resources center at my college.
