I tried fighting it myself once and it took a month to beat. Eff that noise, When I cough up stuff like that it's time for the amoxicillin.

I refuse to go to the doctor unless Im dying, hospitals and clinics are fucking creepy, and they all have that heavy smell of antitoxidants.

You mean antiseptics? They suck and aren't fun to go to, but that's a phobia that'll get you hurt one day. Make one short trip to a clinic instead of several long stays at the hospital.

Yeah, antisceptics, thats the word, it just dropped out of my head for some reason. I go if I feel really, REALLY bad, but unless its something that doesnt go away, I prefer to just ride it out. Ive sat in enough desolate waiting rooms, feeling like Im at a wake for one lifetime.

I hate the smell of antisceptics. Its the scent of death.

I will never understand this fear. I can understand not wanting to go to hospitals or clinics because they're all gigantic quacks, but associating death with places of healing is absurd.

Not really, hospitals are the place you're most likely to catch an illness because it is filled with germs, despite all attempts at sterility.

That said, I avoid hospitals because I fear for my wallet, not my health.

I worked for half a year at a hospital and didn't get sick.

It's not that hospitals are filled with germs, it's that they maintain such a sterile environment that it selects against 99% of pathogens while the remaining 1% is the strongest and continues to multiply. Hence the origin of superbugs.

Ugh I think I somehow cut myself underneath my tongue? I can feel it whenever I chew something.

Self medicating with things like amoxicillin is part of the reason we've developed bugs that are getting wiser to our go to defenses against getting sick.

It's better to go to a clinic and get something else than to down a "miracle drug" that's only going to make things worse for people in the long run.

The important thing to remember about all antibiotics is that whenever you think you should stop taking them is always too soon. As for how long specifically, you consult a doctor. If you feel like toughing it out, that's on you, but the worst thing is to just start shotgunning drugs until something sticks.

When you say 'self-medicating' do you mean that people can buy antibiotics without a prescription in some places? Here in the UK we can only buy antibiotics once a doctor has written us a prescription - and generally a doctor is the best judge of whether or not somebody actually needs antibiotics.

Antibiotics aren't really a 'miracle drug'; A lot of people don't understand that antibiotics are only any good for for fighting off bacterial infections - but have no effect whatsoever on viruses.

If somebody has the flu a doctor shouldn't prescribe antibiotics because influenza is a virus.

If somebody has the flu and a chest infection a doctor should prescribe antibiotics so that the body gets some help dealing with the bacteria taking advantage of the virus weakening the host's immune system.

We shouldn't not use antibiotics because they'll become inneffective in time through use - what's the point in having medicine and not using it? Doctors are already being advised to use better judgement when prescribing antibiotics - at least in the UK anyway.

By the time all antibiotics have been exhausted we will most likely have nanotechnologial 'medicines' which can identify and neutralise problem cells - basically microscopic robots injected into your blood stream (this is the most likely route to dealing with cancer too). Though I imagine that people will also be better able to design and manufacture synthetic antibiotics by that time as well.

Necessity is the mother of invention after all.

Antibiotics like penicillin and amoxicillin are readily available over the counter in most countries and are often used as a go to answer for illnesses to avoid doctor visits. In countries like India, they're often a part of an antibiotic cocktail given to patients in hospitals as a cure all for bugs, but because of this practice, bacteria are quickly becoming resistant to these medications from their overuse and misuse.

That's why it's bad to take an antibiotic like amoxicillin without doctor approval, as it may not even work and just makes the bacteria that survive it able to pass on their genes for resistance.

Okay, I didn't realise that penicillin and amoxicillin were so readily available without prescription in other countries - I believe every form of antibiotic is prescription-only here in the UK.

It's probably because penicillin and amoxicillin are so easy to get hold of in those countries that we have to deal with the impending superbug situation everywhere else.

Nose won't stop running and I've nearly been sick twice trying to blow it. My gag reflex generally isn't that bad but as soon as my nose comes into question I can't help but boak at everything...

Also, eating pizza did not help with this in the slightest. I had so much of it when I visited the US last year that I would appear to have spoiled it for myself. Feel sick every time I have it.
