You maaaaaaaay have to be more specific.

Yea, I figured. Umm, mitosis is something I don't remember too well. The stuff about RNA is a problem too. I don't know, it's all just a blur to me. I'm sure my teacher will end up doing some sort of review though, so I'm not too worried about it.

So replication and protein synthesis? That's not too bad. You may want to look up videos on youtube that will give you a visual aid on the matter. I'll dig some up.

I don't know how technical you need to get though.

It's just high school Biology, so it doesn't have to be really in depth. Those videos will probably be plenty enough to at least jog my memory. Thanks!

Mitosis is a pretty key part of the cells section of most biology classes, though. Make sure you cover that stuff.

You probably went over the phases of mitosis like prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
You might've also covered what DNA and RNA do, and the difference between them.

Also considering cells you probably covered the different kinds of cell organelles and the differences between animal and plant cells.

This is just general stuff, I don't know how in depth your class was, but if you can explain these concepts you'll be on you way, at least on this particular topic.

For DNA replication, I actually went over that in my DG this afternoon. To get really concise, the most important thing to remember is this order of enzymes involved.

1. Helicase
2. SSBs
3. Primase
4. DNA polymerase III
5. DNA polymerase I
6. Telomerase

That's pretty much the hardest part of remembering about DNA replication, what everything is. The next is what they do...

Pretty sure they don't get into the enzymes in high school intro Biology.

Heck, we barely did in my college upper-level Biology classes.

*shrug*

Taken too many Bio classes then. They're all jumbled together as far as when I learned what.

Speaking of Biology,

I really want to do well on this Cell Bio final. I'm going to make flash cards with keywords on them (like names of different proteins, mechanisms, and other concepts) and just write out the explanation of that concept of the back. I think I'll include a mix of broad and specific topics, but I want to cover the ENTIRE semester's worth of material. Just writing the stuff will probably be helpful, but I also want to be able to pick a card and be able to explain that concept on its own.

I think I'll have an entire deck of em when/if I'm done writing these.

I passed my semester and stayed on the Dean's List for yet another semester!

Hooray, highest grade in highest-weighted class!

I don't know how to do derivatives of functions and I've looked everywhere for a simple-enough tutorial.

It depends on the function.

If you just have a regular polynomal function à la

f(x)= x²+4x+5
It's pretty easy. You take every part of the sum, lower the exponent by 1 and multiply it by the old exponent. If there's no x in it, it just becomes 0.

x² -> 2x
4x -> 4
5 -> 0

I think this is a complete list of the derivatives of elementary functions
Image
Combine that with these rules, and you should be able to find any derivatives. It won't be that easy until you get the hang of it though, practice it a bunch.

Example:

D((ln(x))²)
= 1/(x²)*D(x²) /chain rule/
= 1/(x²)*2x
