Zang, no. You can't say "can't think up an original creature" and then immediately say "It can't have any existing animal features." That's completely different from what you said. Just because something has fur doesn't mean it has the characteristics of a bear.

Yes, but think of any fictional creature and you can break it down into real world inspiration

If it was an amorphous blob, it would be an amoebae.

Okay, figure out what you're trying to say. Original does not mean "has nothing in common with anything else." Original means "has not been done before."

You can find common links with everything if you're really pedantic about it.

Okay yea that was a miss-wording on my part. But what I mean is, It's not possible to think up a creature that doesn't have characteristics of another existing creature.

Well everything imagined in the human mind references something observed by that person. So technically, all your thoughts are unoriginal.

A nocturnal inflatable lizard? Those two traits aren't compatible with the typical lizard traits, so I'd say an animal like that doesn't exist.

I feel like I'm missing your point, help me out here.

No problem, just a little weird that you'd post about a topic you don't care about.

I think the original question was if genetical engineering could make an original creature. The answer is mostly yes, as long as it's life-viable. I don't know to what extent current technology can go precisely though. I know we've created pigs that are fluorescent before.

That might actually be the case I remember, instead of the pigs.

Is there any other science topic on anyone's mind, because I'm bored to death of this one.

We're getting closer and closer to enjoying personal jetpacks, aren't we?
