Double standards, Tabernaco. Although it provokes some people to be veganfags.

Quote:
Well we don't EAT hamsters. And we don't keep Octopus (octipi?) as pets either. Of course its going to be more disturbing to kill someones PET.

Point taken.

But I'd like to have a cephalopod as a pet. Cuttlefish are adorable, too bad they don't live too long.

Well, there are more cows and chickens than humans, so I guess that if we don't kill them, the population might get out of hand.

Also obligatory joke:
What does PETA Stand for?
People Eating Tasty Animals.

It's not necessarily double standards. My previous post proves it. There are things we kill to eat and to help keep ourselves alive and healthy, and there are things humans kill just to kill. And that in itself is where we find the difference. That's why you'll never see me hunting for sport.

And don't give me the "we don't have to eat meat" because to have a healthy diet you have to eat meat. There are bound to be complications for a vegan.

You could also mention how we slaughter hundreds of cows and chicken so we can turn them into burgers and KFC, or anything like that, but that's no excuse for sticking a hamster in a microwave. Ex. Just because someone else murdered tons more people than you doesn't justify the fact that you just murdered someone.

The term "Someone" applies to sentient beings only.

I also bring bowhunting to the floor. If a hunter shoots a deer with a broadhead and it doesn't kill it, that could be considered torture too.

Oh God this is going to start a 'our food IS tortured' argument isn't it?

Probably because our food IS tortured.

If you're going to cry bloody murder over killing animals that are born and raised and bred for food that have little other thought process, then you take it to the Taboo Topics thread. You're not going to start a shitstorm over why you think torturing an animal, or any living being (that had no stake in what happened, mind you) is good or bad because it's a really retarded argument(it goes nowhere, as do many arguments her)

I don't care for your beliefs, cynicism, or self-righteousness. He nearly killed a hamster. Its wrong.

If you want to debate this point, then take it to the appropriate thread.

I don't see why these news threads keep coming up because all it devolves into is opinionated people going at each others throats.
So I'm stopping this before it gets out of hand, because I see it will.
