I don't think Intel particularly pushes developers to ramp up their system requirements, it's Nvidia that's mostly known for doing that. Oftentimes developers just use what computers they have at hand to estimate the system requirements, and i7's are pretty common in workstations.

I don't think it's Intel because the AMD FX-8350 is listed as well, where the 8 cores are almost certainly overkill too.

I know. I wasn't serious.
But more seriously, would they take over-clocking into account? Not everyone does that.

Probably not.

Also, this caught my eye:

Quote:
Fuck Phys-X. Nvidia GPU owners are forced to use Phys-X with no "OFF" option. "Low" is the lowest you can go, and it's still painful. LOOK AT THE MASSIVE DIFFERENCE IN FPS. This is also a major issue on my 780 Ti SLI system - FPS will tank down to 30 at times (1440P) when there is too much shitty looking goo or Phys-X splashes on screen at once. It sucks when I'm playing with friends who have 290X's and I'm the only one stuttering despite having a much more powerful computer.
The R9 290 dominates the GTX 970 here.

Christ. How badly can you botch up your PhysX implementation for it to halve the FPS when compared to a roughly equivalent AMD card, with no option to even turn it off?

That was just an extreme example, I'm sure the game runs fine on stock i3s too.

Related: true dual cores having problems with newer blockbusters.

It had to happen eventually, I guess. Something like a Pentium AE certainly wrecks whatever the PS4 and Xbone are packing for a CPU, but I guess pure core count is starting to matter more.

Inb4 Far Cry 4 gets hacked and it turns out to run fine on dual-core.

But yeah, multi-threading has been slowly becoming more prevalent for a while, and this is a good thing. No need for budget gamers to panic though, i3s with 4 effective threads will stand their ground for the foreseeable future and AMD has cheap multi-core solutions.

I don't mean to be a douche or anything like that, but can we keep "tech support" questions in the Tech help general thread instead of here? This is more about advances in technology and discussion about it.

Welcome to the family.

I'll probably end up mounting it internally, it should be a bit faster and less in the way that way.

Hey, a lot of it is gameplay videos I've recorded, and I'm a bit of a hoarder.

Not to say that I don't have a lot of porn.

Edit: I ended up installing it internally right away. Removing it from the enclosure was a bit of a hassle (as expected) and then I had to download Seagate's own program to partition it as a GPT drive to make more than 2TB of it available.

If you've ever wondered what the speed difference between USB3.0 and Sata 3 is when using the same drive, now you know:
