Question: Is this mead-making legal?

It's not like buying water, honey, and yeast are illegal.

Plus, the guy at the homebrew shop didn't react too much when I mentioned I was making mead. In fact, he asked one of the other employees print out one of his own mead recipes to use at my own discretion.

Then again, the materials to make DMT aren't illegal to buy on their own and that's a class one drug...

Well, mead in itself isn't illegal either. You probably can't sell it without a permit though.

Yeah, making alcohol (unless it's wood alcohol, I think) is perfectly legal for making as long as you don't distribute to third parties (those who don't know it's homemade) or sold for profit.

That is correct. While I'm sure the amount varies between regions, in my county, a household can make up to 200 gallons of wine (mead counts as a honey wine) a year for personal consumption/gifts. You just can't sell it without a permit.

All flavours of Schweppes mix very well with alcohol. I am pleased by that.

Decided to go ahead and bottle the mead a couple of days early. (Only because I know the mead has been still for about a week already). Went through an assload of coffee filters when pouring it out to cut down on the yeast density, and the mead is a touch cloudy, but I like it. The flavor is really strong. Sloth's mom thought it was pretty good, so I'd call it a success.

It's alcohol and energy drink, not cocaine and heroin. Only thing you have to really worry about is the caffeine worsening your hangover.

Also, my nurse stepmom laughed when I asked her about the whole mixiiing soda and alcohol being bad for you, and she started laughing. Said it was the dumbestt urban legend she has to deal with on a regular basis.

Rum and coke is a popular drink, after all.
