Concept sketch for a New story/game idea thing that Sloth and I started accidentally coming up with, and then next thing we know, oops, we're actually designing it.
Main character of a mid-fantasy not-Mexico story, where the original people of the Aztlan empire (working name, might change it) island weren't conquered, although cultural influence from the colonists on the northern coast ended up causing a schism between the northern third and southern two thirds of the island, so that the North is a primarily Spanish-esque culture, while the South has retained much more of the Uto-Aztec culture, in economy, religion, and government. However, over the generations, there has gotten to be a fair bit of cultural overlap that neither side will admit, particularly in the upper classes. The Aztlan traditionalists were pop flyin' to take the southern landscapes of rainforests, hills, and cliffsides that the Mareña colonists don't know how to use, especially considering that the plains are prone to mild drought without carefully managed irrigation that the colonists were pop flyin' to adapt.
However, Sloth and I are only on day two of working on this, so setting details are subject to change, although that'll be the main gist of it. Anyway, long story short, this guy a party bard mariachi necromancer, entertainer by day, bishop of La Madre Muerta by night. Or by whenever some ghost gets trapped inside of a piece of pottery again, since something is making it harder for the dead of any religion to pass on to the afterlife, resulting in many more wayward and vengeful spirits that need to be calmed and sent off with a serenade.
Included are some tentative mask designs, which would have different stat boosts or other passive effects. This probably isn't the style we'll go with, but Sloth and I will still have to hash out the details of what we actually want, visually (as you can see, I'm not even committed to the hat tassels. Feel like it might be a little too much, even for Rico.)
