I can't take it anymore.
I need a new computer.

I'll build mine to save cash. I want one that can run a game at a good 30 frames, i'm not a graphics hog, just as long as i can run it well on low graphics in open area's. Reccomendations?

I have a very odd computer problem.
I can't figure out what's wrong with the computer. It keeps crashing(no blue screens, the monitor just goes crazy, sound too if it's on.) and none of my 3D games, like Halo, sims2 and portal will play, but for some reason, toribash and sonicroboblast2(both have 3D environments) do work. As well as minecraft and fusion fall, which my brother plays online work as well. Games like yume nikke and cave story work.
It keeps telling me directX is not compatible. And I've done every single thing you could tell me, nothing works.
I can't get emulators that rely on DirectX to work, but the PS and DS ones work fine.
The weirdest part, is that it did run my games just fine before, everything. I can't recall when it stopped working. But I can't do system restore now. This problem has been going on since march.

i recommend watching newegg's computer building guide

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw

don't be turned off if you find it confusing, it's fun and rewarding

PS: use a power supply calculator

Hey guys, my dad is now seriously considering getting a new computer, and I have a couple of questions.
First, how do I transfer my stuff from Steam? Would I just download Steam on the new comp and give it my account info? Or is it done differently?
Second, I'd just like general recommendations. I don't think we're looking for anything specific, and I don't do much pc gaming.

steam is an easy transfer
just install steam on your new PC, log in, and re download the games for free.

on the hardware recommendations:
4 gb (or more) DDR3 1333 (or higher) RAM
quad-core CPU
not an integrated GPU
that should make any Source engine games a breeze

pardon the double post, but this is a different-ish topic:

does anyone know if you can run an AMD APU with a separate GPU for graphics?
I want the APU for faster GPU processing, but another faster GPU for rendering.

if you can, look for a setup with a motherboard that supports 1866 ram.
even if you don't use it, you can upgrade later.

I've been looking at laptops for school, and I was wondering if I could get some opinions. Right now I'm basically between these two:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... ct=5128755
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... ct=5128784

I'm trying to keep it on the cheaper side. I'd like to be able to run some games and video at a decent pace, but I'm not expecting miracles or anything. Is there anything that is excessive on the second one, or is it worth the extra hundred dollars or so that I would be paying for it? This is the first time that I've had to buy a computer and I had to do a bit of research just to know what I was looking at, so any advice would be great.

I didn't even notice that it had USB 3.0 when I was looking at it, but that's an added bonus.
There was also one option that I was looking at that would allow me to upgrade my hard drive to one that gets 7200 RPM (up from 5400) for a little extra. Is it worth it?

Okay, so I hung out on /g/ last night for a good bit of time. Very abrasive community but that's not what I was there for. They show builds, good and cheap, in PNG format by taking a screenshot from Newegg's shopping cart. That's what I was there for. I learned what parts were considered "good" by how often they appeared in the lists as a whole.

$50. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but I have no idea how big of an impact that would have on performance in the grand scheme of things.
