My friend and I found out that we both really like mudslides (basically an alcoholic milkshake). We went to Applebee's and had some. She found a recipe and we are going to try it out one of these days.

When I was at my friend's apartment his roommate had me try a pale ale called Magic Hat. I had like two sips of it - it wasn't terribly off-putting, but I wasn't in a mood to drink. (If he had bought some Mike's I would've downed three bottles in one sitting.) Even though it wasn't as off-putting as I thought it would be I'm not sure that ales or beers are my thing.

Mead batch smells a smidgen like vinegar. I don't know what to make of that.

I check to make sure there aren't any leaks on a semi regular basis, and the combination bubbler/balloon is working (especially when I agitate it) so I don't know.

Looking around google all I get are answers ranging from "OMG it's infected throw it out now or it'll kill your family!" to "that's just a byproduct of fermentation, give it time."

EDIT: I asked my roommate to smell the balloon and he said it doesn't smell bad (after giving the usual "did you fart on this?" interrogation). His exact words were "it smells like alcohol fermenting" so I don't know maybe I'm just being paranoid. I ought to get a thing of vinegar just so I can get a reference. Do you know just how long I should give it before I should note any weird booty smells in it?

Dunno, maybe about a week of having an air leak should turn it into vinegar.
