my favourite moment so far in our campaign has been when the halfling paladin and the human rogue were taken like, 5k feet in the air on an airship, given manacles which were attached to a locked box that contained a featherfall potion, and then shoved off the side. they had to pick the manacles and the box and drink the potion before hitting the ground.

the rogue got all his rolls and got the potion easily, but the paladin wasn't doing so well. he finally did get one hand out, but couldn't get the box open in time, so the rogue threw his grappling hook at him as he fell by through the air and caught him so he wouldn't die. the jerk snapped the rogue out of featherfall so they both fell like, 100 feet and took like 36 pts of damage, but they were both alive and there was a lot of yelling and high-fiving around that table. the best part was the rogue yelling out his plan and the dm was just like 'THERE IS NO RULE FOR THIS...' so he had to make up some roll combination to make it happen. it was beautiful.

the other best part was the same rogue losing his chariot in a chariot race but he still had the horses, so he rode his horses like this for a full lap around the ring.

Aha, I really doubt that, I'm a complete beginner. I'm in my first Pathfinder campaign and only my second tabletop RPG ever.

But yeah there are quite a few ways to find people to play with online.

my friends have started up a regular Wednesday night D&D game, and I've been playing as a human fighter. His background has him as a farmer who found a dead knight by a tree. He took the armor and sword from the knight and has started masquerading as him, trying to do good as best as an uneducated farm kid can.

My party includes:

Thorn: A spoiled rich nobleman who was kicked out of his dad's house and told "To make something of himself". He's another fighter, that focuses on dueling. He is also interested in the arcane, and wants to eventually become an Eldritch Knight. He's kind of our walking ATM, and is the only one who owns a horse.

Chuck: A monk who was raised by griffons. Wants to destroy a great evil (that he doesn't know what it is yet). Every time something bests him in a fight, or embarrass him he's convinced it's an aspect of said great evil he's looking for. So far the only details he has is: It's associated with bats, and wooden buckets.

Tsubaku: A fighter that focuses on defense. He's just a giant wall. As far as personality goes he has none though.

and then we have a couple of people who drop in and out on week to week basis. We have a bard, and another Monk.

Last night we came into town, investigating bodies going missing while also looking for the duke's missing daughter. In the general goods store I saw a fairy in a bottle, and being the knightly sort I am I demanded he free her. He refused. Thorn prevented me from causing a scene, and forcing the shop keeper to let the fairy go, and just bought it for me. I let her out and tried making friends with it (nat 20) and now I have a fairy friend that hangs out with me that may be enamored with me. I'm going to see if I can find a lock picking set and have her learn how to pick locks for us.

just bought Sheriff of Nottingham and played a few games. Pretty silly fun, especially when you get really into it

IT's funny, I usually hate bluffing games because my tells are super obvious but Sheriff was the first game I bought for my gaming group. And one of us always goes for a no bluff strat and consistently does well
Also if bluffing games are your thing get One Night Ultimate Werewolf. It plays sorta like Mafia and rounds take like 5-10 mins depending on player count. There's a free app for it for the night phase

One player dropped out during our off-time. That's fine because the group is still too big and too filled with novices anyway, but now I have to re-tool the encounters to account for the loss. Specifically his loss, I planned on something for his character in particular. Also he was the fighter, so the paladin is probably going to have to step into the "tank" role and I foresee both divine characters losing their powers very soon.

Just tried Battlestar Galactica. Wasn't as much of a fan as I thought I'd be. I think the main thing was a combination of the fact that it doesn't feel like you get to do very much on your turn, but it also feels like it takes forever to get through everyone else's.

Dunno if it's really appropriate for this thread, but any of you ever played Coup? Pretty fun short little game.

I have not, but it sounds like pretty good times. I've played Resistance and have heard it's like a more complex version

You tried Machiavelli perhaps? Also kind of similar but more complex with building shit added on. Lasts a lot longer though.

You know, last summer I tried DMing a homebrew campaign based on a pretty bizzarre world in which the players were eventually supposed to partake in a sort of cosmic cycle to save the world. I did my best to come up with something as original as possible: the first boss was a magical pelican woman who, when low on health, gorily committed suicide so that her child could drink her blood and gain her strength (the players were supposed to get help from a bunch of bears lead by a sentient talking cub they had helped earlier, but I was a newbie and underestimated their power level); the second one was a haunted rapier that fought by summoning the ghosts of those it had killed in the past; other planned bosses were a huge golem powered by the magical sword it had originally been defeated with, Huge Flying Infinity Ouroboros (final boss, needs to be summoned as part of the Cycle, kill it and the world deserves to exist) and Ugly Eldritch Tentacle Monsters from the Plane of Void (true final boss, hijacks the regular final boss thanks to the players unknowingly helping them, wants to extend their reach to the other planes).
Another thing I came up with was a backup plan in case of total party kill: as soon as the PCs died the players would, collectively, take control of a party of premade undeads tasked with performing a ritual to rewrite history and bring the heroes back (as well as get the eldritch assholes' slimy tentacle in the door).

Unfortunately I didn't really know what I was doing and never really planned anything except for these snippets of story and I soon passed the DM's torch to another friend of mine, my campaign for the most part forgotten. For the most part, yet the secret animal still lives.
It was the campaign's second session, and I had the players stumble upon a cave. One of them entered, and asked what he found.
"You've found a secret animal!"
"Well, and what kind of animal is it?"
"It's a secret!"
Some shenanigans then took place with the secret animal, but it didn't matter; that single exchange was enough for everyone to remember and bring it up again, even a year after it all went down and everyone had moved on from my barely-more-than-a-one-shot.

I found this awesome tool to manage encounters/combats in Pathfinder.

http://combatmanager.com

Searchable monsters, initiative rolls and more. Tried it out last session and it's amazing to work with!

I've started a homebrew campaign with my friends on Tuesday nights and we had our first session last week.

The biggest addition has been a race of magic space rocks that try to possess and steal the magical essence out of people. They can take any physical form they please, made out of nearby materials. One guy made his rock's body out of stone and greenery, with chia seeds for hair. He's a Bard who thinks he's Jesus of one of the homebrew gods.

Another character is a bunch of JoJo references. His god is Jodaro the dolphin f-I mean god of marine life. The player likes to act out all poses his character does.

I also added classes for Dragoon, Magical Girl, and Kamen Rider. One of the players actually went with the Kamen Rider class and it's going pretty well.

These party members are nuts. I feel like I'm going to end up with a lot of stories
