The shadow temple has a big meaning (for Tatzel atleast). It's not very easy to see, but the entrance is locked with a weapon, and old hyroglyphs are written over it, which are saying the following:
"This temple was built in remambrance of the great darkness. The time will come where the darkness will rise again and invade the narwhals sanctum. The one who will be able to lift this weapon will be granted access to the shadow temple, where the one will be set on the trial of truth. Should the one succeed, the one will gain the hope of heart."
Well, it's all cheesy I know, but I have great things for that planned... Tatzel will be the one who can lift the weapon. You will see why and what it all means when I get to this point :>
