We had one semester of Health class required in High School, we actually talked a lot more than I expected about sex, basically not saying "DON'T DO IT" but the more realistic "If you're gonna do it, use these practices, and watch out for this."
6th grade we had a sex ed section, but it was basically "Here is how babies are born" and in middle school we had something, but I honestly can't remember anything from it.

I have been looking at/reading porn since a few years after I discovered masturbation at age 11.

Take that however you want.

I do not even know if my school has a Sex-ed class, but if it is, it's not mandatory, or ever talkedd about. Our health class is just "Drugs are bad, m'kay." That is bodaciously all we talked about in middle school. I have yet to attend one health class my entire highschool year, either. It's just not required. Which really is a shame. Because it probably should discuss sex-ed, instead, it is just, like I said, drugs are bad, and this is cancer. For fucks sake, I learned more about sex in my Biology class.

Some of us got some extra classes on it, but sex education was taught mainly in biology when I was educated.

It's kinda stupid how in one class the teacher turned off a video when they got to the contraception part - I would've thought that was the most important part.

Maybe he was a catholic or something, Idk.

Our sex ed is best summed up in a word, a phrase, or a sentence.

"DON'T"
"IT'S BAD"
"OH GOD YOUR DICK WILL FALL OFF AND YOU'LL GET PREGANANT AND STD'S AND AAAAAAH AND THE BABY JESUS WILL CRY SO NEVER EVER HAVE SEX OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE"

Keep in mind this is a public school, and almost half the last sentence is verbatim.

gonna say here that being exposed to porn at young age really fucked up some stuff for me

i mean if a kid sees a naked lady they're not gonna die but it can still be pretty upsetting

I dunno about that, all kids have seen their parents naked at some point, and they can always see themselves naked, I don't think there's that much of a difference. If they get upset it's because they've been taught to not be naked and that it's dirty and stuff.

People actually having sex is a different manner, honestly I don't think there's that much harm if it's not porn sex, but how normal people actually have sex, as long as they're taught this is not something they should try out until they're older and ready for it.

At any rate I think for most kids/teens at the age they start to seek out the stuff for themselves they're pretty ready for it, as long as they receive proper sex ed in time.

But they should really do some kind of study about this.

Professional porn is stupid anyway. It's often better for laughing at it than for fapping to it.

Because I like to offer my 2 cents I'll say this

Sexual content effects different people differently. This can depend on simple psychological, environmental, or intellectual factors. I can vouch that the first time I ever saw porn (which was on TV when I was a preteen) it scared the shit out of me. I can look back at it now and say it didn't really impart me negatively at all, but I sometimes question what might have happened if I continued to explore pornography at that young age.

It's been known to fuck people up. There's no need for a study to be done for that to be evident. One of the examples I've seen that speaks volumes is that Ted Bundy, an infamous serial killer, strongly strongly cautioned people about allowing their children to view pornographic material at a young age. He suggested that it was one of the things that deeply affected him in his youth in regards to his outlook on sex and women. He murdered young women and raped their corpses for days and days after they had died to feel dominion over them and to "Feel complete ownership"

Obviously it's an extreme example, but it does bring up a lot of questions. As for my other thoughts on it, Le Great Handsome Oppressor explained them perfectly. Kids do not need to be looking at porn.

But isn't it quite strange, that what is a normal aspect of everyday life, would have such profound effects on a developing psyche?

I don't have an opinion, one way or the other, but I think it's a subject that deserves proper research.

Don't you think it's normal that's such a huge aspect of life could have a huge impact on people?

It's not a huge part of your life, it's a normal one. Like eating, sleeping and drinking, mating is just fulfilling your base needs. Our society has glorified and taboofied sex to make it much more than that. It makes no sense from a biological perspective, that an animals body would be ready for reproduction, but it's mind wouldn't be (humans reach full biological maturity at around age 14). However, because we overprotect our children and have artificially elongated the "child" phase in development until age 18 or so (*), it might actually be the case. But, taboo-ing sex even more isn't a solution to that problem I feel, it will just worsen it.

I feel like the solution is to focus teaching more on learning responsibility, and to teach children about all aspects off the world, instead of trying to "protect" them from it.

(*), if you look throughout history (or even to more primal cultures today), you can see that the age when a person is considered mature is pushed back time and time again. That is probably because as culture develops, there is more information a person needs to take in before they can be capable to survive independently. This has caused psychological maturity to be actually reached later as well, as kids are introduced to responsibility slower and with less urgency. In some African tribes, when a child reaches 12 they are dropped into the jungle on their own, and if they can survive and come back to the village, they're recognised as adults. Now I certainly don't condone such barbaric practice, but if you were to compare that 12 year old to a 12 year old from here, the former would be much more mature.

Edit: I feel the need to restate that my stance is merely that keeping teens from porn is pointless, and not that teens should be given porn, be encouraged to watch it and certainly not that they should have sex. Just trying to avoid possible misunderstandings.
