Cousin set me up with a training program and in two days I have somehow burned seven pounds. This is probably less the program's direct doing and more it being responsible for waking up my metabolism because I am hungrier than ever.

Uhm, I don't think that much is even possible.

I distinctly remember weighing myself last week and I was at 227 lbs. I weighed myself this morning, two days, technically three but I haven't done it today yet, after beginning the exercise program, and I'm at 220. The scale's still accurate, double-checked with something else I knew the weight of, but I don't remember if I had eaten before weighing myself last time or not. Even if I did, that would only be a pound or two in addition, plus maybe one if I was wearing shoes.

In a week it's more likely but yeah. Weight change is about 3500 calories of food per pound, so losing 7 pounds means a deficit of 24500 calories. Which still means burning 3500 calories extra each day for a week if you're not eating less than you need to maintain weight.
It's a lot. I'd say you ate before last time and probably lost some water weight. Have you been eating less carbs lately?

No idea, I haven't really changed my diet. The last few days have been relatively healthy fare though like chicken burritos with beans and rice.

I'll just chalk it up to coincidence and wait to see if it continues because I do know that's not normal under ordinary circumstances.

Just coming back from late lifting. Feels really good. Just a few months ago I would have been too lazy to even leave the house at this time of the evening.

I've discovered that I really really like vertical pushups.
Also that I can't do them.
But just kind of doing one wall-assisted vertical pushup each day just feels nice. Anyone else ever try this?

Wait, thats actually a thing? I do it all the time, I thought it was just goofing around, not a legit excersize method

Well, I have no idea how legit the concept is. Or how legit my execution is.
Or if I'm using the right name.
But I imagine it does kind of work as an exercise. Maybe not as well as regular pushups but it does feel like it should tone your arms. I should probably use a pillow or something for my hands because I feel like my hands are being less exercised (and really, can you exercise a hand?) and more hurt.

Handstand pushups. Yeah those are a thing. Train different muscles than regular pushups though.

This thread hasn't seen much action in a while.

I'm wanting to lose a bit of weight, I've developed an awful snacking habit over the summer and the occasional flight of stairs reminds me that I'm way out of shape.

Anyone have any recommendations or starting-workout ideas? I walk around campus, go swimming every now and then, I do the occasional pushups, situps, jumping jacks or whatever in my room but I'm having trouble sticking to a routine just because I haven't had one before. Just looking for ideas, anything helps.

Doing some excersizes whenever doesnt really do much, you need a dedicated routine. I'd say try to walk 4-5 kilomters a day, swim two-three times a week, and set up a daily regimen of pushups, situps and whatever other excersizes you think you could benefit from. Squats are good.

I actually just found a beginning circuit routine I'm gonna try out.

20 squats
10 pushups
20 lunges
10 dumbell rows
15 second plank
30 jumping jacks

Those squats are killin me man, but I think I can handle a couple circuits of this a couple times a week. Here's hoping I can stick to it.
