i mean to be fair, best by/expiration dates dates on food are kinda hooey anyway and don't actually tell you when food goes bad...plenty of stuff is still good after the date on the label. a sell by date is for the store, not you, and the 'best by' dates are just when the manufacturer has decided the food tastes best, not when they're supposed to go off. like seriously, i have bodaciously never had an egg go bad on me, even after months of being in the fridge. spoiled milk is great for making cheese or savoury sauces, and since it's pasteurized you won't get sick from eating it. unless something jarred smells off or has mould, it's still fine. i have more issues with stuff drying out in my fridge than i do it spoiling.

medication however absolutely does expire lol. though most of the time by 'expire' it just means it's less effective, so technically it'll work, just not as well. fine for like, ibuprofin, not so much for your anti-depressants you lost and just re-found six months later

Yeah I don't care too much about expiration dates on food like I used to and I never throw stuff away only because of the expiration date. I see it more like "you can safely assume it's good until that date, then you might want to check just in case".
Still, 4 years past the expiration date is quite a lot when you're having guests.
But the thing that really annoyed me was his anti-science stance and his "the world ran out of honesty and goodness sometimes in 1972 and now every single entity is crooked and corrupt and lying" old people schpiel to claim expiration dates are always always a cheddar-making scheme and never an actual indication or required by legal norms and public health agencies and whatnot. Earlier today he kept interrupting my sister to tell her she ought to not believe her ophtalmologist who's telling her her sight is getting better since her surgery because those people always always lie to you for more cheddar. Meanwhile, just yesterday he paid to go to a second "learn to heal people and plants with positive thoughts and magical energy transfer over the phone in just two hours" bullshit course. Ugh.

Also when I make an attempt to come back and reintegrate into here and can't post in any threads without necroing them.

Tried finding some local tech meetups to keep me interested in tech and motivated to keep learning programming, but bodaciously every meetup is on a weekday during work. Like, why does nothing happen on a weekend? Makes no sense.

aw jesus I hope I don't have to start wearing glasses when I use my computer
that would suck hard

I was trying to find a musical or something to watch a bootleg of because I'm bored
I remembered that people on Tumblr really liked The Lightning Thief musical, and since its been like 10 fucking years since I read the Percy Jackson book(s) I looked up the musical's plot and

"Act 1
Percy Jackson, a teenager with ADHD and dyslexia, is on a field trip to the New York Metropolitan Museum of art. While there, his substitute pre-Algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, asks to speak with him. Once alone, Mrs. Dodds transforms into a Fury, a mythological Greek demon of Hades."

I was like 2/3 of the way through the next sentence before I stopped and went "Did Hades have legions of upstanding members of society?" then I reread it and considered sticking a fork in an outlet.

The whole thing.
Duck typing and boolean-ish automatic conversion (reliability is overrated anyway)
Prototype-based objects (yuck) with no type identity
null and undefined being two different things (okay but why)
Syntactic salt and lack of browser support for what little sugar it has to offer meaning you just can't rely on it
Scoping issues and half-baked functional programming
What is 'this' at any point in time? iunno
Lack of typing making it a pain to work with someone else's code because you have no idea at any time what anything is or contains, thus...
Having to do global string searches every single time you're looking for anything because tools can't handle scripting languages
A billion frameworks doing the same things in equally terrible but different ways because the base language is failing
It being touted as the greatest thing ever and the future of programming despite all of the above

Applied for a job that's already put me through two interviews and I'm waiting for a call back to see if I get a third.

All the waiting in between is killing me.

Why do people in the year 2018 still give small children access to recorders

Probably cheap way to get them to play an instrument since its just a molded piece of plastic.

I’m getting pretty tired of seeing TLJ whining on anything Star Wars related. We get it, you didn’t like a movie, trying to seek validation for it everywhere isn’t gonna erase it from existance.

People who claim that people nowadays are too easily offended and then turn around and get offended because a movie/comic/video game/whatever made them have to look at something that wasn't a white guy

Ain't that the truth. I work with a few people that still think alluding to someone being gay is some sort of wrongness with their character. Like, one of them jokingly said I must be interested in men because I didn't find some random celebrity attractive. I always respond with "what if I am?" and then they get uncomfortable with me for some reason. I'm not even gay, I just hate this weird standard of masculinity that's still present everywhere. Happened another time when I mentioned that Kit Harington is an attractive man. Like, just because I'm a straight dude, I can't admit when someone else is attractive? What kinda bullshit is that, lol.
