People like fedoras for all the wrong reasons. They really don't look good on most people. It is the ultimate hipster hat. Also, if you only payed twenty dollars for it, I really wouldn't be so excited about that; it isn't going to be a very good hat.

Addendum: see my post on this page

I like them along with trilbies because they remind me of old fashioned gangsters, and I love the outfits they used to have. :)

Stereo-typical 20's gansters wore expensive bespoke suits, and very fine, high quality hats. Not a mass-produced twenty dollar piece of cardboard shit.

Eh, it's generally just the aesthetic appeal for me. I'm not fussed about quality.

Let me put it this way. Here is a picture of Al Capone.

Image

He looks suave not because he has a nice hat; but because he has a nice outfit that is complemented well with the finishing touch of a nice hat. It highlights his dapper clothes, and fits in with what he's wearing.

Here is a picture of a doucehbag in a shitty fedora.

Image

He looks like a fucking tool. I want to punch him in the dick. That is what you look like when you just throw on a shitty cardboard fedora with whatever else you happen to be wearing. You look like that douchebag.

Oh yes, I mainly like the hats when combined with snazzy suits (especially pinstriped ones). They kinda lose their charm when it looks as though they were just thrown on for the hell of it, but I don't really see them around very often to begin with. When I do see people wearing hats they're usually baseball caps. :B

I could not have put this better myself.
Also same thing with suit jackets imo. Don't just throw any old suit jacket on over whatever the fuck you happen to be wearing. Chances are you'll look mismatched and either over or underdressed for almost any occasion.

Ehhh suit jackets can work like that sometimes, I think, but if it's just over jeans and a t-shirt, then yeah, go get your head checked.

That's more or less what I meant. I often wear a black turtleneck sweater, khaki pants, and a tan jacket to work (as a host at a resturaunt) and that's formal enough on it's own while still being good looking.

I don't know what most of are made but mines 65% Wool, really soft, was about 45 bucks? Its been awhile. I got it cause like I mentioned earlier, I really liked the idea of Yahtzee's character Trilby. I always think of myself as the gentlemen thief wearing it. Terrible its thrown in the same crowd as hipsters. Plus I love the feel of the wool, and it helps keep my head warm. I just wish I could make it large ffff

I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with them. I happen to own three trilbies. I'm just saying, you shouldn't wear one just because "lol fedoras/trilbies are so retro and oldskool omg I lurvs them XD", and you should make sure you don't look like a douchebag. Like, that picture you posted of you going to court, Dark. That was fine. It worked, the look seemed to suit you well.

To be totally fair, this is how I normally look. Same tan cargo pants, black shirt, that same beat up hoodie, and my trilby. This is more to me not having cheddar to spend on new clothes, and I don't go out much. That and I'm comfy in those clothes and never saw a reason to dress otherwise. Though, if I had more dapper clothing I'd wear it. I never even understood the whole reason hipsters wear fedoras like they do, but I don't understand hipsters in general.

That's because hipsters are just sooo beyond us man. We couldn't even possibly understand the hipster.

They're too obscure, you probably wouldn't get it.

They listen to pretty obscure bands. We've probably never heard of them.
