I think having fun is the most important part about a piece of entertainment.
Something can be so deep, and excellent and critically acclaimed, if I'm not enjoying it I'm not enjoying it.
Take "The greatest movie ever forever" Citizen Kane for example. You can't be a "good" film critic if you don't say it's the greatest movie ever, regardless of personal taste. Maybe it is a great movie, I'm just not inclined in the slightest to ever watch it.
And that's fine I think. It's just not the kind of movie I'd watch.

While something can be objectively be made better than something else on a technical level, like amazing orchestral music, great graphics, deep story, it can subjectively suck out of someone's perspective and vice versa something that has music like an atari 2600 game and worse graphics with no story whatsoever can be so much fun that you completely forget the AAA title you also have.

It's just a taste thing. Some people enjoy this, others enjoy that.

Maybe I'm just not really understanding what you're trying to say.

Also, people need to experience what is 'bad' to be able to appreciate what is 'good' - if people just went on 'the experts' opinion of what is 'good' all the time wouldn't everything that is 'good' just become passé as well?

Though I suppose it would at least be a 'higher level' of passé - raising the bar as it were - which is your aim, correct?

My goal is indeed to heighten to the overall quality of media (who's wouldn't be), but more importantly to diversify the market. There will always be generic mainstream media, and they will always sell the best. What we should be concerned with is conserving the innovative, specialised and unique stuff, so everyone has the option to pick something to their liking.

I'm not disputing this, I'm saying people should search why they're having fun. That is, if they want to argue about stuff, if they just want to enjoy their favourite media all day that's their choice. I don't want to force anyone to do anything. I just want media debating to become constructive again, instead of instantly going "oh well I guess we just have different tastes let's not examine this matter in the slightest.

It often does escalate into "The things you like suuuuck" "No the things YOU like suuuuuck"

So really we just want people to be better able to verbalise their feelings on a comparative, objective basis and be more challenging of others - yet still retain a degree of respectability?

Ergo, they need to be better educated?

Yes, I guess that's the gist of it. You can achieve understanding of a medium without receiving formal education though, although education in general makes people more verbose.

Should there be an imaginary number that equals (n/0)?

No, and there is no point in us discussing this because none of us have a math degree.

Okay, then Bacon:

Chewy or crispy:
I vote chewy, because ash isn't food.

Every burger joint around here cooks little strips of crunchy blasphemy.

VOTES ARE:
CRISPY: 4 | Chewy: 3

EXERES: CRISPY
SLOTH: CRISPY
THE IDIOTIC ORACLE: CHEWY
KAMAK: CHEWY
NEED RUNES4: CHEWY
VEALIN: CRISPY
MADICAN: CRISPY
