Maybe you should start learning French so that you can understand the DVDs?

Wasn't megaupload the site that only let you watch 75 minutes of something at a time?

Either way, ignoring cease and desist demands gets no sympathies from me

I'm not sure about this, but does that mean they're basically being sued because they had membership programs?

They were paying people, and making a direct profit of, copyrighted materials. Naturally, without the say-so of the owners.

So, essentially, they pay people to put pirated or otherwise illegally obtained things (music, movies, shit like that) up on other sites in order to make more people come to their site and thus make more cheddar.

They knowingly profited from both the uploading and the handing out of the illegal materials. That's pretty bad.

You're thinking of megavideo there.

MegaUpload ALWAYS took down infringing material when copyright owners requested them to.

I'm 99% sure that the sudden taking down of megaupload after megaupload sued Universal Music is no coincidence.

Yet more info on the MegaUpload takedown: a quick summary of what can be found in the 72-page indictment.

It seems like MegaUpload wasn't being honest with the copyrighter material being taken down.

Yeah, this isn't really anything related to trying to take control of the internet, this is actual large lawbreaking going on. It just came at a bad time, seriously, wait a few weeks FBI come on.

It does seem a bit like a show of force, after MU sued UMG. I wonder what will become of that.
