It's been a long time, but I did Kokorokan Karate in the past. It was more or less a style developed as a counterpoint to Tae Kwon Do. Basically, my style was made to beat it by keeping them off balance or something. I earned up to my Senior Green Belt. The progression went...

White -> Senior White -> Blue -> Senior Blue -> Yellow -> Senior Yellow -> Green -> Senior Green -> Brown -> Senior Brown -> Black -> 2nd Dan -> Etc. Etc.

For me, a few things killed the interest. It stopped being fun and started being a chore, which can ruin just about anything. My cousins, the reason I joined, stopped going. Lastly, one of the instructors was just a complete psychopath. He really had it out for me and one hauled off and hit me in the stomach hard enough to bring me to my knees because I "needed to learn self control". Fucking dickhead.

It's something I'd love to get back into though. Not that style, but martial arts in general. Something like Judo or Sambo though. I'm way more interested in something involved grappling.

I do Tae Kwon Do, have my black belt and going for my first of three intermediary tests monday.
I enjoy it, though the school has its ups and downs. Masters sometimes come and go, right now there is only one from when I started who is still regular, he's now the owner after the last one couldn't keep it up anymore. the old people still show up from time to time and it is awesome. though my friends, who found the place recently stopped coming. as I said it has its problems, which they do usually and eventually realize and fix, though also letting another thing slip. I had my black belt for a year before they could finally finish all the paper work, get my photo and present me with a certificate. then they started to teach me my black belt form. but that last bit was also because one of the slippings was starting forms ALWAYS from the lowest going up, usually towards the end of class, meaning we'd make it almost to my form when time was out. Though things have been on the upward slope as of late, I dont have much to complain about. (well other than the Korean master who hasn't quite mastered the English language, but I don't blame her for that.)

...huh, I wouldn't have thought I'd have so much to say. (yay, egotism!)

I used to do Tae Kwon Do when I was younger with my father. He's at least a blackbelt, possibly with degrees but I can't remember. I believe I made it to two belts below black but then my dad had to work more because his boss died and he didn't have time to continue training. It was pretty fun from what I remember. I was really young so I never really sparred though, but I remember doing forms at some point.

I'd like to study martial arts again, but I think martial Tai Chi is interesting so I would probably do that.

Have sex. Lots and lots of sex. Even if it seems wrong. Do it anyway.

Did Tae Kwon Do for a year until I got bored of memorising the movements. Picked up breakdancing instead, I ain't even kidding.

But I grew up with Jackass, Tekken, Virtua fighter, WWF Smackdown! and a bunch of guys 3 years older than me, so we beat the shit out of each other a lot. Maybe that counts for something? I also the know a couple of holds from MMA that are quite effective (triangle hold for example).

Never been in a real fight, guys have tried to fight me before but I just laughed while dodging their attacks until they gave up, my reflexes seem to be al right. I was drunk one time though, but luckily my friends saved my sorry booty. I dunno, I've never really had the urge to physically hurt someone. In that incident my friends even asked if I wanted them to beat the crap out of the guys that attacked me (we outnumbered them about 30-10), but I stopped them.

Yeah, that guy was more than a little fucking nuts. I was like...14. My kick went a little too high and hit his headgear. I pulled the kick so there was no impact. And then he decided to drill me in the stomach. This is also the guy who broke his hand trying to break 5 boards at an Elementary school exhibition. Fucking psycho.

You are lucky. I suppose I can't complain terribly. For the most part, the other instructors were really cool. They all had their little things about them (Like one of the guys who would purposely block all kicks with his elbows, which hurts like a motherfucker), but most of them didn't physically assault me in a manner not consistent with sparring etiquette.

I went to a Hap Ki Do school for around five years, but it sort of sucked. They focused more on teaching us to be good people, so all we ever heard about was having self respect, honor, honesty, responsibility, etc

Yeah, cool, I'm pretty sure I understood this shit before I signed up, can I learn some martial arts now?
Then I quit at red belt because it was expensive.

That's one of the biggest problems with martial arts for me. It's just so goddamn expensive. I know some places it's one class a week, $40 or so a month. I'm paying $10 a class. The class better be pretty amazing if i'm paying cheddar like that. Seriously, $480 a year is no sum to sneeze at. I want my martial arts ability to reflect that.

When I was nine I won a free month of karate lessons. After the month was up I stopped going because my parents didn't want to pay for lessons.
