My first assumption is around Christmas, but since people might have to be with their family's or won't have access to the computer, there will probably be a week to two week period where the gifts can be exchanged before it will end and any further gifts would be late. Not to mention this isn't only about Christmas (even though it's Secret SANTA, derp) and it seems silly to restrict the giving to that week only.

So I'm thinking anywhere from the 22nd to the 29th. Since the 22nd is almost only a week away though, if that time frame is too small, from the 22nd to the 2nd of January would probably be the longest I'd say it should run. That way if it's late for Christmas, it can be like a New Year's present. (:

Since the list seems to be filling rather quickly, I will probably get some people to help with the decision process. I know we're getting some coding done but I'm not sure how it's going to work just yet? But it seems as though a third party program will be creating the pairings of exchanges, but if not that, I'll most likely just select a group of people to help me divide up all the names.

Nope! Drawings, writings, photographs, songs, anything is fine! The only thing I can really think of I wouldn't want done was, obviously, anything involving stealing someone else's artwork/writing/photo/music. If you know the person you get REALLY, REALLY wants a specific mp3 of a song or something, then I guess you could send them the mp3 if you have it, but mostly it's supposed to be a hand-made thing.

Yeah, I just realized I should put a fairly soon cut off date for signing up, or people will only have a few days to scramble making the gift, whatever it may be, before they have to hand it to the receiver.

I'm thinking the 16th or 17th is the day names will be handed out, depending on how this thread looks tomorrow. If a bunch of people are unfortunately excluded for participating, there's always next year to get on the ball sooner and start the whole thing easier since we'll have prior experience.
