That, and the Avatar the Last Airbender movie should be cool.

Initially, I was excited about this movie. Now... not so much. Although I'm not against a live-action adaptation, I think it wouldn't have as many problems as it does now if it were animated.

(This may be my dislike of M. Shyamalan speaking, but I like to pretend I'm being reasonable and unbiased.)

My friends force me to like Shyamalan.
What kind of problems? (Just curious.) The only qualm I have with the movie is the actors. I mean, I can understand having some white actors, but Sokka and Katara? Seriously? Not to mention Sokka's actor played Jasper in Twilight... guh.

Not a movie, but I'm still really excited to read the first and third in a trilogy of plays in my English class.

We read the second, and all of us really enjoyed it. Then today in class one of my best friends talked about how she was looking online and apparently a third is out. A third where the main character is pregnant and everyone is sure the character we all wanted her to end up with in the second play is the father.

We asked the teacher if there was room for it in the class and she agreed full-heartedly.

EX CITE ED.

I completely forgot they were making a movie. The Final Warning was terrible.

I don't care much for M. Night, which is a preference issue rather than an actual problem with the movie, but my main beef is what you mentioned, with Sokka and Katara being white. Then the have Dev Patel play Zuko, because clearly adding in one dark-skinned person at the last minute makes everything better. Also: this is not Iroh, I don't care what you say. I mainly blame their casting director, who once put out a casting call asking people of Korean descent to were kimonos and those of Dutch to wear lederhosen, which was... pretty funny, actually. /whinewhinerantrant

I did not have a problem with Jackson Rathbone until this:

(I feel like this argument is hypocritical of what I said to Yanimae. :I )

My favorite play is The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, next to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Which trilogy of plays are you referring to?

I doubt you've heard of it; I'm taking First Peoples (Native American) English.

They're all by Drew Haydon Taylor (the blue-eyed Ojibway), with the first being Someday, the second being Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth (the one we've read in class so far), and the third being called 400 Kilometers.

His website: http://www.drewhaydentaylor.com/

Better than Jesse Mccartney, I suppose. D: Actually, I was kind of looking forward to Jesse Mccartney playing Zuko. I mean, yeah, fail casting is fail, but a white, pop idol Zuko would've been amusing.

WHAT? Iroh is short, fat, harry and awesome. This man is neither of those things. I'm not familiar with those other movies, though. <- Never leaves her house.

There's a difference between saying "Lighter-skinned black people aren't black" and "White people aren't black." And Jackson Rathbone certainly isn't black.
Also, WHERE ARE ALL THE ASIANS?

Aside from being the wrong ethnicity, Jesse McCartney looked more like Zuko than Dev Patel. McCartney's facial features are more defined than Dev Patel, who has a softer, goofier look that's more like... well, Sokka.

Shaun Toub was amazing in Iron Man, but he's going to have to gain a lot of weight to pull off a convincing loveable fat man.

I suppose, but I still have that nagging feeling that I am being a hypocrite. Sigh.

Anyway, the thing that saddens me most at this point is that the (most likely) reason they chose Dev Patel of all people is to bank off his fame from Slumdog Millionaire. Bonus: he's dark! That should totally appease the angry fans, right? Right?

As far as I know, there is one Asian actor: Keong Sim as Earth Bending Father. Jessica Andres might be mixed, but it's hard to find any information about her so I can only guess from the one good photo I can find. I'm surprised they haven't gotten Aaron Yoo - he's fairly popular as far as Asian-American actors go. And America has a love affair with Chow Yun-Fat; surely, if he's willing to do a movie like Dragonball Z (which, I might add HAS ASIAN ACTORS) he'd do a movie like this. I just can't believe that there were no Asian actors available or none with enough talent to do this movie.

Holy crap, really? I love that book! :DDD

Also, the Dragonball movie looked good at first to me... but then I saw a commercial for it. It was saying things like "Misunderstood teenager" and "Fitting in" and "Discovering powers". There was even a part in the commercial where it showed Goku(Reeves) being pushed into a pool at a party or something, and then getting laughed at.

THEY'RE TURNING DBZ INTO TWILIGHT

I'm extremely picky and don't think any of them look anything like they're supposed to. What really bugs me is that I can't find a picture of that Noah Ringer kid. But you're right, he does look more suited to play Sokka.
Shaun Toub better do all he can to be a convincing Iroh. It's been a long time since I've seen a character as amazing as him and I don't want anyone giving him a bad rep. I could go on a rant about why I love him so much, but these huge posts are already enough of an eyesore.
I wanted to see Iron Man.

I hope that's not what they're thinking ): Maybe it's because Shymalamamashama's never done a movie based off a T.V. show before and didn't know how picky the fans would be. (Justified pickiness)

Dragonball Z; another movie I wanted to see, but never did. HO-HUM.
Honestly, I'm sure there are some decent available Asain actors out there. What I can't believe is that no one involved in the casting thought this would piss anyone off; especially since a lot of avatar fans are Japanophiles and hate the American devil.
