You should've just perma-banned him. Nobody really likes him here anyway,
While some members can be difficult at times, banning somebody because you don't like them is an ugly road to start going down there. People are weird. Maybe they're havin shitty days, every day. Everybody's got somethin going on. I don't say that as an excuse, just... nobody's just a dick. I've hurt my share of people, and I'm sure the rest of you have too. That doesn't mean we should just start banning everybody.

Like [Insert Fail] and errybody else has been saying, just to reiterate, private messages are good stuff to do, fellas.

I don't think it matters anymore what happens to Barb. If he comes back and didn't learn his lesson he'll be banned again soon enough anyway. If he has learned his lesson no one will want to talk to him anyway. Especially now everyone's come out and said, 'I don't like him'.

Not like he'll be missed if he never comes back at all.

That's true I guess, bit of a tricky one to bounce back from. Still, a little sad.

He can have a fresh start elsewhere. It's not like this is going on his resume.

I've had many well paying contracts from GaiaOnline.

@Terra: He was incapable of having a serious conversation. It always turned to sex or some anime thing. He also has admitted to being or wanting to be a troll.

If/when he comes back, anyone who has a problem with him can just put him on the foe list anyways. I don't think it's very nice to just start talking about how he isn't well liked now that he's been temporarily banned, especially on the forum where he can clearly see this later. I think it'd be in his best interest to have a fresh start somewhere else, or at least have a cool down period longer than his temporary ban, but it almost feels like we're pushing him towards a group concensus of a perma-ban.

I don't like what he has done, or said about the ordeal, though to be clear. I'm glad Great Handsome Oppressor's apologized for flipping out, because if I were him I probly would've too. That really sucks that he did all that, Le Great Handsome Oppressor. :<

Oh my god I didn't think he was serious about that.
I think the part that disturbs me most is that he actually laughed when Great Handsome Oppressor told him off. It's a blatant disregard for other people by that point.

This is just another reason it's typically best to separate yourself from a discussion if things are getting heated. Great Handsome Oppressor was offended by the action, and Baraba felt justified in the action. Not even looking at the controversial nature of the action itself, this is never something that can be fixed by just the two people involved gradually getting angry at each other. As obvious as Great Handsome Oppressor felt it was that what he did was offensive, repeating "it's offensive" isn't going to convince someone who's just going to think "you're one person who needs to lighten up. And then the more heated each party got, the more each counterargument was about the emotional stake and not the logic that'd be used to reach an understanding. I've been in this boat before, a long time ago. Baraba's thinking that emotions and butthurt were the only reasons he was banned, an now he's probably feeling frustrated that we're discussing the issue without him being able to provide any input, or defend himself. These ideas of "let's permaban him!" are just going to inflate that frustration, since he can't interject to defend himself.

The logic in the controversy comes down to the idea that Great Handsome Oppressor is uncomfortable with her picture being used in associated with pornography, and while Baraba might feel apathetic about himself being in that situation, "civility" and "empathy" dictate you don't just take your comforts and feelings into account when making a decision, especially when the situation is potentially controversial. That's it. If you disagree with that, then you'll be judged negatively, because it extends from the social contract. You take the thoughts and feelings of those around you in consideration where they agree to do the same with you. If you can't agree to do that, then we won't consider your feelings in any decisions we would make.

Since this is something to do with the social contract, I guarantee that had Baraba simply been told by more and more people that had nothing to do with the controversy, and thus were impartial, that what he was doing was wrong, the idea would've clicked.

EDIT: Speaking on the discussions of not liking Barb and simply "shunning" him once he comes back, I'm not sure how healthy that is. If you personally don't like him, then you, personally, don't have to talk about him. I'm not sure how much of a good idea it is to try and get other people to do the same under the consensus of "I'm doing it, you should to!" Shunning can be extremely efficient for getting people to stop deviant behavior, but it's the reinforcement that's received once the shinning has stopped that actually does what you're all hoping to have happen. The less he does whatever action you don't like, the more you associate with him. It's not because "I'm manipulating you into this!" but because he's saying he's figured out that what he does isn't well received by the community he wants to be a part of, and that he's willing not to do it...so you let him back in.

So you're saying don't get involved unless you should get involved? Not trying to be funny, I'm honestly kind of confused.

I'm saying if you're going to get involved in the situation, then the best way to handle that is to remain level headed, and give logical reasons for whichever side you're on, and not simply say "That's fucked up bro!"

If the person who's directly involved in the controversy is the only one feverishly telling him he's wrong, he'd not going to be convinced. No one would be convinced.

You should not get involved if you're just going to find yourself emotionally compromised.

What I got from that was that Barb probably wouldn't have learnt his lesson unless other people weighed in on Great Handsome Oppressor's side.

I don't think anyone was encouraging people to shun him. I think most of us were already doing it to begin with and will have more reason to do so now.
