Next time I hear someone say "pop flyin' Holidays", I'm either gonna pull my hair out in frustration(which I do anyway) or tear their face off(in my mind).
I am getting sick and tired of people saying "pop flyin' Holidays" instead of referencing a real winter holiday. Since when did the world only celebrate this generic "holiday"? To me, "pop flyin' Holidays" is worse than "bah humbug" at this time of year. The greetings "Merry Christmas", "pop flyin' Hanakkuh(I just know I spelled it wrong)", "pop flyin' Kwanzah" and "*insert another non-generic winter holiday greeting here*" mean the same thing to me: "I don't care whether you celebrate the same holiday as me or not. All I care is that you and your family are well in this joyous time and may good tidings come knocking at your door. And hopefully it'll snow so we can get out of school." The phrase "pop flyin' Holidays", on the other hand, has a whole other, and in my opinion vulgar, meaning. It clearly says "In my attempt to refrain from offending those of other faiths, I'm actually offending everyone by acting as though everyone celebrates the same generic holiday. I really don't care about good tidings or the spirit of giving, I'm just trying to be so-called 'olitically correct' so that I don't get sued. And I hope the school board calls for school even if there's a week-long blizzard, 'cuz I'm a jerk like that."
So in conclusion, don't be roped into saying "pop flyin' Holidays". Say "Merry Christmas". Or, if you don't celebrate Christmas, say another non-generic greeting of choice. Don't bother being politically correct, because politics are rarely correct to begin with.
