Not true in the slightest. It's a whole different animal to play right field versus playing left field for example. The way the ball spins off of a bat, wind, and sun are just a few factors that influence the way a person has to play their position.

I can see how the positioning would change on the condition, but it seems to stay mostly static throughout the match.

I will agree that the team up to bat generally gets more action than the team in the outfield.

I like watching a bunch of middle-aged rich white dudes hit a ball around a few-acre sized areas. Always wanted to play it, My dad was good at it, too, and we played together a bunch.

I'd like to say a few things on the topic of faking in football.

First off, the basics on what tackles are allowed and which ones aren't: if you hit the ball first it's good, if you hit the player first it's bad. Basically you're not allowed to try and injure a player, just to take the ball away from him.

Secondly, what you think is a fake might not be. If you're running at full speed and someone just as much nicks your foot, it'll throw you completely off-balance and you'll go down like a sack of potatoes.

Thirdly, the rules are there to protect the players and refs err on the side of caution. Rather someone get's un-earned ball advantage or yellow (red is rarely given out undeserved) than someone's career gets ruined by an injury. Yes, they could use video to get certainty, but that would slow down the game to a crawl and draw matches out too long. They could also go back and look at the video material and medical report and give out sanctions to faking players, but that might create an atmosphere where players force themselves to push through pain and worsen injuries to avoid sanctions.

Lastly, if the tackle is clean and the ref is paying attention, faking isn't going to get you anything except take away your contribution to the game because you're lying on the ground instead of playing.

Yes, faking is turbo lame and it's a mar on the sport, but the problem isn't that easy to solve and doesn't completely remove it's enjoyability as a spectator sport.

Ain't no faking in American football

Unless you're playing defense against Oregon

Speaking of tackling, at our university's last (American) football game, it was our turn to punt the ball to the other team. We kick it, it's a pretty nice-lookin' kick, opposing team's player gets ready to catch it.. but a good 2 seconds before he would have caught it one of our players barrels at him at full speed and tackles him to the ground (you're not supposed to hit them until they catch it, and even then there's a good chance they won't even try to run the ball and you won't need to tackle them). It was pretty brutal and the entire stadium was scratching their heads wondering how on earth that player thought it was okay to do that.

That kinda stuff is ejection material for a lot of teams, but for some reason we only got the regular personal foul/unnecessary roughness penalty. I imagine the refs didn't even know what to do, it was so bad.

The rest of the game was pretty good though, we had a number of dumb screw-ups but some good plays as well. We ended up winning 31-30, much to the dismay of the away team's fan section that was sitting next to the band taunting us the whole time. Hue. I think if the team can just clean up some of those dumb mistakes we'll do pretty good this year.

On Saturday, Arizona State, my school, faced off against University of Wisconsin and a very controversial call was made on the last play of the game. We were ahead 32-30, and Wisconsin was in field goal range with about 18 seconds left on the clock. Wisconsin's quarterback tried to set up for a field goal, but according to the refs, he mishandled the ball, I guess? So Wisconsin wasn't allowed to make the field goal attempt and we won. There's been a lot of backlash about the call and PAC-12 officials are even saying that the refs screwed up big time. I don't know if we'll be allowed to keep the win, but for now we're now ranked #23.

But seriously I'm the biggest UGA fan, and nothing felt better than beating Steve Spurrier and the Cocks last week

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over #23 in the nation.

Edit: Crap, you guys are #9. I've made a terrible error.
