Blitz, where are you getting these Halo facts from? Just wondering because I have the Halo art book for all three games in the series but don't remember reading about them
So anyway, there were many creatures cut from the game, but one of the enemies was called the Cremator. It was a Combine with an oddly shaped head and a long trench coat (back when that was the standard for the Combine,) that carried around a flamethrower and essentially fought by lighting you on fire. It was eventually cut from the game, but you can find its head in that green jar in Eli's lab.
Doctor Breen in Half-Life 2 was also supposed to be half-alien by the time you finally face him. The point was that the alien technology was supposed to be consuming him, but they settled on his human look. He was also supposed to have glasses, and although many styles were used as a test, he eventually didn't get any at all.
To add to the Halo facts, one of the leads at Bungie (I believe Jason Jones?) really wanted to put a tail on the Elites. The head artist Shi-Kai Wang, however, argued that they should look more humanoid and less like animals, and there was also the question of where their tails would go riding a vehicle. They cut the tail idea when one of the ideas presented was to simply put it between their legs.
The Jackals, however, never had a distinct style in mind, and were simply the result of drawing different creature concepts. They never really had a plan for the Jackals, not even as an enemy type, so they constantly went through many different looks.
I read too many art books
