Is this an upgrade? If you've put a new motherboard and cpu in an old computer, you'll need to reinstall your OS with the proper chipset drivers.

Your RAM definitely isn't the problem, though. It'll slow you down, but a bottleneck won't cause that kind of problem.

I put it in a workshop and had them install it, they reinstalled the current OS for me but that's about it I think.

If I need any new drivers for it, I probably don't have them.

Also, I had them install an extension card for wifi in my PC but my internet just freezes at irregular intervals. Everything stops responding for about 5 seconds and then kicks in again.

Any idea what might be causing it? I'd probably ask the retailer but I don't have any good means of transportation so I can't for the most part.

Sounds like driver issues, and possibly issues with your storage medium.

Try downloading the drivers from the manufacturers websites for your various components and install them.
If you need to find out what components you have, try out Speccy.

Not sure about the motherboard but it doesn't seem like a driver problem with the extension card.

I have drivers for both, don't see any problems with freezing right now but my internet still keeps stopping now and then, so I'm not quite sure what's going on. Not sure what I should search for on their support site.

My new DVI D cables arrived. Got the monitors all hooked up correctly (previously, only one was connected to the graphics card and one was plugged into the motherboard. Now both are in the graphics card).

I got the wireless headphones, but I'm not sure about a good way to charge them. I was hoping I could charge them with my computer asleep, but it doesn't seem like that works. Any easier way to do so?

I assume they charge by USB? You could probably repurpose an old ohone charger and just plug them into the wall.

Again with the headphones, well, for some reason the volume control doesn't work on them. If I try to adjust the master control, nothing happens, it still plays at max, but if I adjust say, the sounds on Adobe Flash, it reduces properly. What do I do internet?

Also make sure you are actually adjusting the correct audio output.

Whoops, saw 'tech' and posted to the wrong thread at first.

I'm planning on tacking an art major on at college, and poking around I've found out I'll need a MacBook of some type. My mother has an old MacBook Pro lying around, and While it doesn't work it looks as though replacing the hard drive might fix it.

I tried reinstalling the OS completely (using command+r at boot), but the disk partition was locked which I'm told indicates drive failure.

My question is how completely I can wipe and replace the storage. How are petitions set up? I see the hard drive's model name with 'Macintosh HD' as its only partition and then, separately, disk1 with something about the OS as its only partition. Is disk1 actually separate from the physical hard drive I can swap out?

I don't think they make MacBooks with more than one drive, so it's likely just a separate partition for the OS. I think if you just swap in a new harddrive and perform a fresh install it should work.

Turned out the hard drive is fine enough to install and boot Yosemite after a few formats. Unsolved problems: turning off the wifi breaks everything sometimes?

I can cope with this.

Something is wrong with my computer now. It's not starting up. Sometimes it starts up but doesn't send any video out. Right now it's booting but then windows tries to start up but the zcreen just goes black. I don't know what to do.
