The main reason I refuse to vote for Romney was because he never ever gave a straight answer when he was asked about things like jobs and economy. Other big reasons that affected my decision were his treatment of both women and people in the LGBT community.

'Binders full of women', really now. Whenever I think of binders and women in the same sentence I think of chest binders. Give the boobies some room.

The main determining factor for me was when I heard that Romney was gonna cut college aid for students. I know the National Guard is already paying a good chunk of my education, but the grants that I also get are solely responsible for the other good chunk that needs paying. I don't know what his plan was with that, but he alienated a LOT of college votes in that proposal.

I'm actually pretty OK with that. Sure, I like having my aid, but if I'm going to be paying for it eventually anyway, what's the big deal? That's that much less federal spending. There are always scholarships and other forms of loans available for needy students.

Aid for students allows them to get out of poverty traps, which means talented people can contribute to the economy instead of working at MCDonalds. Sure, you have to pay it later, but at that point you hopefully have a job. If you're born into a poor family you just don't have the option of getting an education.
There might still be other ways for the poor to get scholarships or whatever, but the US already has ridiculously high costs for higher education, so heightening the burden on students doesn't seem like a bright idea to me.

Education costs are high mostly because of such an enormous emphasis on having to go to college to do anything worthwhile with your life(which isn't true, by the way). You have to go to college to get a good paying job so you can live a pop flyin' successful life, yada yada yada. Believe me, I can see this issue both ways, but I think Romney is looking at the bigger picture. It's risky, but this could help LOWER the cost of a college education with time.

Education cost isn't determined by supply and demanded, it's determined by it simply costing a fuck ton of cheddar to properly educate someone. The only way to lower the cost is to stop colleges from being profit hungry by subsidizing them.

I voted for Obama because I at the very least believe that he will be able to maintain the stability of the country for four more years until better candidates present themselves.

Uh, no.

It costs so much because the US has the most booty-backward hatred of any taxes ever.

Yeah I think that's what you could tie a lot of America's problems back to.

America DID kinda start BECAUSE of taxes in the first place, so it makes some sense... I guess.

Those scholarships are what he was gonna cut dude...

He was going to take funding from student aid, which is what "scholarships and other forms of loans" are.

EDIT: The way he put it was "borrow cheddar from your parents" where you're paying the school from your own pocket rather than through student aid. So no, you're either working 20-30 hours a week and juggling 12 or more college credits a semester, or juggling 12 cor more college credits a semester with your parents breathing down your neck (assuming they even agree to fund your schooling). Given that most college kids are working 20-30 hours a week anyway, all it would do is strain them with one less possibility for income.

Borrowing cheddar from your parents simply isn't something every american can do. The fact that he didn't think about that before saying iteither shows he's out of touch or he doesn't care.

The funniest thing about it is I got a text message from my Dad saying "no" before I even heard about the comment. That alone tells me he didn't just alienate most college students in the nation, but any parent of a college student. There's only so far that "blunt honesty" can get you.

Question on the side, does anyone know if the college credit system works the same in the US as it does in Europe? Here you normally take 30 credits a semester, and a course is usually about 5 credits.
