We used to have a cat named Maddie that died right after we moved into the last apartment. The litter box was next to my toy bin shelf hybrid thing. Because of this, it got litter into the bins every once in a while.

I think the dead pet thing happens with every move. My grandma's dog, Dapper, died right after she had moved down here to Colorado. Ziggy, a dog I had with my mom and one of her boyfriends died after my mom moved back in with grandma.

I now miss Maddie, Ziggy, and my dad's dog Yukia (is... is that correct? I'll just call him Goober). Good ol' Goober died a few months back. Ate a sunflower head, so he went out eh way he wanted. Glad that ex-stepmom left Yukia with dad after he divorce.

This went from cat litter to sad pet deaths.

it's not really that uncommon...the stress of moving to a new place takes a toll on animals of any age, but older ones are the least likely to handle it well. i suggest having younger pets

what annoyed me today is i didn't sleep well last night because my husband insisted on rolling over on his back and snoring. i got up and did my morning chores, then the internet went out so decided to go back to sleep, except bodaciously everything but a house fire happened to keep me awake. went lay in bed to read a bit before i passed out and it was too dark to read. then i played on my phone but i turned it off somehow while using it...then someone knocked on my door.....then i finally started dozing off and my cat jumped in the bed and yelled in my face...then the OTHER cat yelled in my face...........Why

i finally did get to sleep another hour and a half and i feel better now but just why does everything have to be terrible at one time

Wasn't really age. Maddie, maybe. But Ziggy had escaped he house where it was being taken care of for a moment. Ran across Arapahoe Road I think. And for where we were living, it was busy here. Dapper ate chocolate.

Every time I try to use the computer, there's a power outage all over the town that lasts for hours.

At this rate, I'm never going to get to actually do anythi

I was planning to spend the weekend in my apartment (I had food ready and everything) but my mother asked me to instead spend it in my hometown so I could help her setup her new windows (even though I'm notoriously the worst at anything practical or manual). So I quickly picked up my perishable food and drove down to her house after work.

She's been making a lot of broad statements about how the world is corrupt and there are no good people in the past months every time I talk to her about anything and it's bringing me down any time I see her.
I'm just vaguely contemplating a trip to Iceland and when I told her about it she immediately went on a diatribe about how Iceland will soon be inevitably corrupted by tourism and become a dirty commercial tourist trap with violence and thefts like every other place in the world were people exist.
The guy who previously lived in my apartment gave me all of his furniture and his dishes and his washing and drying machines for free and paid 4 months of the fridge+oven rental out of niceness. When I told my mother about it she insisted that the guy was just being selfish and lazy and that it was all self-serving because there are no acts of generosity in the world and everything is cynical commercial minmaxing. Good thing I waited before mentioning he was an Arab.
Then I knocked on my neighbours' door and asked about sharing their Internet and the lady asked me to come back the next day so I could talk about it with her husband. When I told my mother that (and that the woman was not comfortable speaking French), my mother asked if they were immigrants, and upon hearing they are, she immediately gloated about her obviously being a homebound subservient abused wife because "those people are naturally mysoginistic and violent". Nevermind that I see her every day going out to go to work and that they're perfectly nice and normal.

So yesterday we went to a Thai restaurant and she talked about "those 'strangers' and their kids negligently riding their bikes in the street" and when she brought me to buy stuff at a hardware store and one employee was Afro-Caribbean and she had to comment on it (saying what had happened in the US was so sad, because all black people are African-American?). After dinner I told her that one of my coworker had been robbed by someone in the same building for the fourth time last week and she was concerned, but when I mentioned the guy was born in Columbia she snarkily said "So they're robbing people of their own kind eh?" even though I didn't say anything about the thieves being latino (I have no idea who they are, the guy never said anything about them except they live in the same building). I said that was an inappropriate thing to say and she brushed it off, "It was just a joke that came to me suddenly, I didn't mean anything by it haha".
Later in the evening she was watching TV to further avoid listening to me when I was talking about how my new job has positively affected me (she has never shown an emotion in front of me and she's constantly doing manual work or renovating every part of her house to stay too occupied to have time for feelings and shit) and it was a show following a blind French celebrity spending some time among a Tibetan village and she commented that "These are such a nice people". I took the opportunity to confront her to all the racist remarks she's constantly done every time we've met in the past six months or so and she became all defensive and eventually asked me to leave while maintaining that she's not racist, it's just that all Arab people really, empirically, are naturally violent and animalistic and that all crimes in the town I live in can be traced back to immigration.
We didn't have a fight, it was always civil, but it sucks. Since her house is, as usual, in the process of being renovated, I had to go to my father's house for the night, and it's less than ideal because my father is away and I didn't tell him beforehand.

So today I wake up in my father's house and there's no power in the room with the PC and the router so I can't use my laptop. I start the washing machine and then I spend half an hour fiddling with the fusebox before figuring out it's just the powerbar that's disabled. I re-enable it and and spend five minutes on my laptop before everything shuts down because we just lost power in the whole house. For once it's actually cold today and I'm stuck in my underwear with no Internet and no PC (my laptop's battery doesn't last one hour) and no lighting and all my clothes are wet in the drying machine. I call my mother on the antique phone that doesn't need electricity to ask her when she wants me to come help her with her windows (the whole reason I rushed back to my hometown yesterday) and it turns out it's not for this week but maybe next week, she just wrote her email super confusingly and never clarified. So now I was stuck in this cold dark place in nothing but my underwear with nothing to do and no way to heat the dinner I had prepared for myself when I thought I was going to stay in my apartment, for absolutely no reason. Then my father unexpectedly came home, made himself dinner and interrupted me while I was reading a book to tell me (while eating disgustingly noisily and speaking with his mouth full right in my face) about the subpar buffet at the place he's volunteering (you can't have coffee at lunch time and there's no milk to drink with the breakfast! Simply preposterous!), then told me to wash his dirty dishes because he was in a hurry and put me in charge of taking care of the water tank once the power would be back and make sure the toilet is working, and left.

5 fucking minutes after the power came back he called me twice to see if the toilet was working and the water tank was okay like I have nothing better to do. It's now almost 4PM and I haven't done anything. A+ weekend.

I should probably introduce her to an Iraqi man I used to work with 10 years ago who I know as Adam. It isn't his real name, though. I think his real name is Nicodemus.

He's pretty cool. He loves being in the US, but when you consider that he fled here when he was 19, when Saddam Hussein took power, and later killed hs family, I'm not surprised.

I hung my clothes so they could finish drying yesterday and they're not dry yet because it's absurdly humid and cold so I can't even go back to my apartment yet.

Gee, I hope those clothes that are the nicest I've ever owned and just bought last week and only wore once get all moldy and wrinkly and ruined, that would be the cherry on top of the poop sundae.

I have this problem where if I'm worried about 1 stressful thing, my anxiety seems to mentally block me from doing other things, even when they're not as stressful I just need to do them for one reason or another.

The worst part is, if the 1 stressful thing involves waiting, then I bodaciously won't accomplish anything until I can actually do something about the first thing. Sometimes I can break out of the cycle if the other things are urgent enough but usually not.

Right now I'm worried because we're going to be signing a new apartment lease at a different place. Even though it's pretty much decided where we're going i can't really do much because I have to wait until the evening to go there. Meanwhile I also need to follow up on some emails, decide on a new bank, and clean, but no matter how hard I try I can't seem to allocate the mental resources to do so. Hell, I've wasted like 2 hours trying to get myself to go take a shower. At least I did accomplish the high-priority thing to do today, which is going to visit the last complex we were looking into (but we still like a different one more).

I helped a friend build a pc last night. Everything went smoothly right up until we started to install Windows. He didn't buy an optical drive (understandable), but his Windows disc needed it, so I took the drive out of one of my old computers but it turns out the cables for it are too old and didn't fit onto his motherboard. So I got my other old, but slightly less so, computer and it was the same thing. Then I had an idea to just plug the power cables for the disc drive into the old pc and the sata cable into his pc and then powering them both up to use it. So it was like some sort of frankenstein monster setup, but it actually worked. Ended up breaking that old pc though because the cpu pins all got bent (had to take the cooler off to reach the disc drive, and the paste was so old, that the cpu came off with it) and I'm not patient enough to bend them back, and the pc is too old to justify buying a new cpu. So, even though we had his pc built in an hour, it took about an hour and a half more before we got windows up and running on it.

On the bright side though, I took the hdd out of the old pc and put it in my main pc. Surprisingly, even though that pc is nearly 7 years old and all the other parts in it were super cheap, the hdd in it was 500 GB and 7200RPM...not bad.

Couldn't you extract the ISO from the disk and burn it on a USB stick? I think dd could have done that without even having to write to the local hard drive.

Yea, but the only flash drive I have at the moment only holds 4 GB, and he didn't bring one. I really need to buy at least a 16 GB one. I don't use flash drives that often, but every time I do, I always wish I had a bigger one. Took me forever to get OpenSUSE installed just because the normal install was too big and the net install confused me at first.

I also considered popping his SSD into my computer and using the Windows media creation tool to just install it straight to it, but as slow as my internet is, it would have taken nearly all night just to download the iso.

Okay. I too always think I should get a bigger flash drive but I never do. My previous boss gave me a 16GB one for Christmas that I only got to use once before it fell out of my pocket somewhere and I lost it. I was angry at myself for weeks.

You know how predictive text on a phone works, right? Type a couple letters, and it gives you a list you can tap to complete the word, and words you use most often will be at the center of the prediction bar.

My phone does autocorrect at the same time, so when I typed "my bag," it suggests, as a replacement for "bag," a word I very rarely actually use.

Why does my phone automatically suggest "vagina?" I don't even have one...

I believe the right term is "Auto Cucumber". The actual autocorrect is actually awesome for typing comments and in forums. It even covers capitalizing the I's and all those words that combine with not and is.

But yeah. General rule: Auto Cucumber sucks.
