This is true, although I've never even had a sex talk with my mother. I was always too squicked out talking about such things with her, so she left me to my own devices and I learned on my own. When she initially learned I was sexually active she acted shocked - and a bit disgusted? (She has a tendency to find things.)

I don't know what changed, I guess she has finally just come to terms with the fact that I'm a 22-year-old adult that likes sex. (Shrug.)

She has some great things to say. I think the most important thing you can take from her is trusting your partner. When you can trust someone with all of you, it's a wonderful, freeing feeling.

You have to scout the area beforehand though, guys.

I guess a lot of it is that my parents and I will more talk about things that are only really pertinent to the situation, so it's more that they're not ever randomly bringing stuff like that up. Besides, if I were to talk with one of my parents about it, it would be with my mother since she's a nurse, and my Dad has little patience when it comes to medical stuff (It doesn't help that I'm medically inclined myself and when my mother and I talk, we get really technical about shit...my Dad will go on and on for hours about anything military related though, sweet jesus...) Since I'm in school right now, we mostly talk about school shit. When I get a girlfriend, I have a feeling sex is going to be brought up at some point.

So it's not that "sex is gross and you should never talk about it, even with parents!" it's just that it's never come up as an integral part in anyone's life when it comes to the family. With my sister, though, who has two daughters (so obviously sex is involved), they'll make passive references all the time.
