Pierce's voice becomes more and more strained.

"I want to believe you, hawkeye, I really do! But nothing else makes sense!"

Tears fall onto Pierce's podium.

"I......I trusted you, Amelia!"

Punchy looks up.

"...A-amelia?"

"By the by, Whitney, I have a question to ask..." Nook says with a a sneakly glisten in his eyes.

"Where ever did you get your hands on that lockpicking set?"

"......."

Pierce looks as if he wants to say something, but decides against it.

"It's none of your business where I got them, Nook," Whitney snapped. "But Re-tail was selling some of Bud and Diana's old possessions, if you want a hint."

"It seems... convenient, that you have the item that caused Diana to go out and kill Bud..."

"And now Cranston is dead, and the map you found with him and Pierce was in your house..."

"It's as if you're pulling strings behind the backs of the other villagers, playing them like puppets, am I wrong?"

"What are you implying, Nook?"

"What, are you trying to make people think I'm the mastermind?" Whitney leaned on her podium. An irritable frown marred her features. "Oh, please. I'd never be willing to work with such a blatant little crook like you."

"There's no honor amongst thieves, dear girl. The Mayor and I may have similar motives and goals, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're both on the same page, you understand?"

"I've had my share of unsavory accomplices, but I'd never stoop to your level," the wolf sneered.

"Now just you wait a minute, Nook. There's not a shred of evidence that she's the Mayor! As for my own claims....."

Pierce's voice trails off. He doesn't want to finish the sentence.

"I'd like to call for some testimony to clear something up before we move onto her guilt in this case..."

"Isabelle, make yourself useful for once and call Miss Reese to give the court some testimony."

"I... What? I mean... okay..."

Isabelle motioned for Reese to stand up.

"Now then, how about telling us about what happened when Whitney and the others were at Re-tail, and what they purchased."

"I'll be pop flyin' to, honey."



Reese's Testimony

"Well sugs, Whitney came in two days ago but was promptly scared off my by husband's overprotective nature. She didn't take anything that day."

Yesterday, she returned with Cranston and Pierce, and while I was dealing with my husband again, they looked around.

Nothing seemed to pique their interest until they found an old piece of paper on the ground and started whispering about it.

They then left without purchasing anything, muttering about how they were going tosee where the river was or something...

Though, I guess it's not like they had to purchase anything... since everything is free, hun."

"Interesting. I think that will do nicely."
