Religious freedom is for losers

Great idea, isn't it? Way to go, France.

I see.

I will ponder and submit a full report... Some other day. But this is interesting.

I believe someone told me something like that once. If that's not the case, then yes, I call total bullshit.

Able to identify you thing?

While I respect the ideals of Islam, there is a little thing called "Progress".

...So I don't get the argument here. They want to remove it to prevent oppression, but nearly every woman doing it is doing so willingly, and either way, it makes no difference outside of France.

France wants to ban it because they're pretty daisies anti-Islam, along with a lot of other European countries. :/

Well after some thought I agree with Ame no Akal

I respect other religions and their practices but it is important to identify people to avoid confusion (and some dangerous confusion at that)

I mean, what if you were a bank teller and saw a person walk in with a full veil around their face?

You'd naturally assume that they were there to rob you.

There is a religious group of people with a settlement just outside of where I live - they're called hutterites. It is against their beliefs to have pictures of them taken.

At first the city respected their beliefs and let them have IDs, such as driver's licenses, without photographs.

They chose to take advantage of the situation, by sharing or swapping IDs. In other words, they took advantage of the situation, and let people who shouldn't drink and/or drive do such.

The city both got fed up with their disregard for their own safety, and fed up with giving them this special treatment only to have it thrown back in their face. They said they would HAVE to get photos on their IDs, so they could no longer pass them amongst each other.

They obviously got really rustled, but even when it was taken to people's court, it was passed.

They suspiciouly don't put up a fight at all now that is has been officially passed. Maybe because they either had to give up going out until the pictures were removed so people wouldn't be able to remember their faces matched to their names, or maybe the government told them they couldn't fight it, who knows.

I... that was not my point. Besides, I've seen these things. Very, how do you say, not-built-for-rob-and-run.

Meh.

Sorry for any misconception. I kind of just skimmed.

But that was just my opinion on the matter

Yeah, they look a lot different than, say, a ski mask.

I'll admit it doesn't look like the most conventional shroud...

But there are plenty of other instances where it could be a pretty big nuisance.

So because there could be issues, it should be outlawed?

I'm not saying THAT.

I'm just saying I can see where they're coming from.

But they're not doing it because it could cause issues, as I'm assuming the ones you're thinking of. If they were, I could see why they're doing it too.

But they're doing it to "stop the oppression" even though it's completely voluntary. :| But that might just be something they're saying so they don't sound like they're stepping all over people's beliefs.
