Ya know, I was realizing just how many incredibly absurd, or just plain stupid commercials are out there on TV, radio, or whatever. Thought it might be funny to share some of them.

I'll start with one I heard on the radio earlier today:
McDonald's Ad wrote:
When I used to buy my lattes at that other fancy coffee shop, I was all reading literature, and watching documentaries. But now that I buy my lattes and McDonald's McCafe, I'm reading gossip magazines and watching reality television. Reality television! THANK YOU MCDONALD'S! I'm loving it!

So... basically... the advertisement is saying "Drink McDonald's coffee instead of Starbucks coffee, it will make you less intelligent!" Really now? Who was the genius that wrote this ad?

The infamous Kirby's Dreamland 2 US ad

The Village (2004 film)
...actually, I'll need to explain that one. The trailer would normally be a good one for a thriller film.
Except The Village (which, I urge you, NEVER TO SEE, it is an utter rubbish film) is not a thriller film at all! It's not even close! The trailer practically LIED about the genre of the film! Ugh!

I had a lot of snarky comments about what you just said. And I mean a lot. Since I couldn't think of one that didn't make me out to be one giant asshole, let's just say that you managed to completely miss the point, and leave it at that.

Here's an example of one of the actual ads, for those who don't know the ad campaign.

Can you actually understand what they're saying?

I got the point, and you missed my point. I'm saying the point is stupid. Hell, in the one you linked the guy is all like "I can stop reading this book and go watch football! FUCK YEAH FOOTBALL HURRDURR," which is just as bad as any of the others that are a part of the ad campaign.

Is there much difference from fans of football to fans of anime, video games or really anything else?

Disregarding their usual way of solving a problem by showing that they are not one to be messed with.

And you can honestly say that there is no sense of hypocrisy in that statement? None at all?

Right... see... my point was that the ads say "now that you can drink coffee at McDonalds instead of high-brow Java Houses, you can be yourself", and not your point of "Drink McDonald's coffee, it will make you less intelligent" (which, I do have to wonder how you expected me to have missed that point, it was fairly clear)

Of course, not to be confused with the actual intention of the ads, which are a simple "WE HAVE COFFEE! Also, have a video clip to remember us by" that most ad campaigns use.
