Say, does anyone here read fan fiction? I know I both read and write fan fics (hence my signature below).

lately, I've been writing fan fics on Pucca (if you don't know what that is, look it up on Youtube, I bet top-dollar you'll know why the francise has been a bigger pop culture hit than Hello Kitty for many good reason)

I think I first got into fan fics when I learned about them from Nintendogeek01 and his popular SSB fan fic "Ultimate Smash Adventure" got my attention.

but enough about me? what Fan fics do you like? if you like them at all.

I've never really got into fan fiction.

I have difficulty fostering interest in anything that doesn't involve pictures or diagrams of some description.

I write it as well. I'm not quite up to par yet.

I read Sailor Moon for the lulz.

I don't really read it, seeing as it mainly turns out to be forty-page romantic pairings of different characters.

I've read a few as proof-reads for a friend who's writing a book now, and I couldn't get into it. Though, it was a fantasy/magic type, and I was never into that genre. I've read some good Star Wars and Starcraft ones, so I'm just the Sci-Fi type.

If FLC was the god, than My Immortal has got to be the Satan of all fanfiction. Srsly, check it out.

I don't like reading. >=|

This is why I prefer fan comics over fan fiction. Fan comics provides more visuals and less text.

I find that for every good fanfic, there are a million bad fanfics. Sometimes the issue isn't even the plot, it's just the pure lack of grammatical skills. Periods, commas, paragraph breaks, correct spelling/use, etc. These things are minor, but they make all the difference to me.

Every time I try to write a fanfiction I put too many of my own ideas into it and way too many semi-obscure references and it all ends up looking like my brain threw up.

Also probably ends up screwing up my characters (Airigh's had like 4 revamps so far and one name change).

I also tend to write fanfictions on stupid stuff. I don't know why I do it.

Speaking of, I'm hoping the computer repairman copied LIS's file, no matter how unorganized and crappy it is, it has some important information.

Depends on the characters in the Fanfiction. If they're ones that're already part of a major story in the canon (aka: nearly everyone), then no, because its rare to find characters with their personalities recreated properly and the fic is rubbish compared to the real thing. If the characters aren't in a story, or have a very minor role, then sure.

I'm not too good a writer, though. Usually, I have the plot for a story, some awesome scenes in my head, and a hell of a job filling in the gaps. I'm doing something wrong.

This might help.

It helped me a lot when I first started writing.

Initially I kept having abortive attempts at writing a complete novel, but using this method I've developed a pretty sound framework for a graphic novel that I can develop further once I have my original chararacter designs tidied up.

Oh right. I'm writing original science fiction, not fan fiction. Same thing applies though - that link should help anybody having trouble developing a story.

There are other sites out there for developing original characters, but I don't have links for that kinda thing offhand.

Also, if you want to write a novel, read the entries on http://tvtropes.org/. No, seriously, read them. Keep on reading. Read some more. Read read read read read until you are an absolute master of knowing WHAT NOT TO DO IN A NOVEL!
