As far as I know we don't have a thread dedicated to discussion about technology, so I thought I'd try making one. Note that this is not the tech help thread.

Here is a pretty interesting video about a technique to reduce latency in VR like Oculus Rift.

I've been thinking that the forum could use a tech thread for a good while now so it's nice that you made one. I'm subscribed to a few tech channels on Youtube and I browse sites with relevant news regularly so I'm in the know most of the time and will hopefully have plenty to contribute in the future.

In the meantime, have an interesting video about the history of storage.

This is the first time I've heard this much praise for 21:9. I'm not into productivity though so I'll stick to 16:9. And well, the price.

Say hello to the Infinite Jukebox, an experiment in looping songs. See those curves cutting through the circle? What this bad boy does is analyze the song for similar beats and sounds, then randomly skips between said beats forever.

Yes, you heard me. Forever. With this piece of musical genius, you can bodaciously play the same song for as long as you want - It will create the song that never ends.

Well that sure is helpful. Also I tried Feel Good Inc. and the skipping feels really forced and painful.

The inifinite jukebox works better for some songs than it does for others. Studio Killer's 'Jenny' song seemed to skip well enough.

Here's some more music technology for y'all.

This one works quite well.

That it does, though it falls apart suddenly at one part towards the "end".

Flexible nanopixel displays that would allow for ridiculously high resolutions

This is the Israeli Iron Dome. It's an anti-rocket defence that is having great success shooting down rockets fired from the Gaza strip. Numbers cited are saying 90% of the rockets fired towards populated areas are being shot down, while rockets heading for unpopulated areas are being ignored. Over 500 rockets have been fired from the Gaza strip the last few days. The progress this kind of technology has had is really impressive.

This isn't a news piece or anything but I'd like to introduce a Youtube channel that I think is very useful for learning about miscellaneous things related to computers and technology in general.

https://www.youtube.com/user/Techquickie/videos

They cover stuff like resolution, bit depth, codecs, different memory types and so on. I know most of this stuff already but I still sometimes watch their videos.

Here's something interesting I found: SVP

Basically it uses interpolation to create intermediate frames in video, essentially allowing 24/30 fps to be converted to 60 fps for more smoothness. Obviously, it's not as good as true 60 fps since you're creating more information out of already existing information, but it's certainly much smoother than watching at the native framerate.

If you're interested, you'll need to uninstall all codecs you may have installed as well as MPC-HC if you have it. Also, you need a really good CPU and decent GPU so forget trying this out on your laptop unless it's a high-end model. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it yet.

IBM cracks open a new era of computing with brain-like chip: 4096 cores, 1 million neurons, 5.4 billion transistors

Those are some crazy numbers. 176000 times more power efficient than a general purpose CPU for brain simulations.
