Because, again, nobody would see them. That thread moves way too fast, and you know that.

Besides, if thread derailment was such a massive thing around here, nearly every single one of them would be locked.

We don't have a Tech Help thread, nor do we have a Vacation Notice thread.

Like, uh, the last time I was gone for more than a day

This thread just happened to have turned into "Well shit, my laptop is being fucking weird". It's not like threads NEVER derail around here anyway

If people are so stupid as to think that you're dead after being gone for a few days, do you really think that appeasing their paranoid imaginations is the best route?

Also, if you're using the obviously overreactive responses of a few people to justify your reasoning, then to be honest, that's some pretty weak reasoning, dude.

I thought I would be nice and let people know I would be gone this time around instead of just suddenly vanishing.

I had notified people of absences in the past, in the unimportant topics thread, but guess what - It got completely ignored for unimportant topics.

Hey, maybe we should have an Absence Thread and a Tech Help thread.

Meanwhile, this thread is going to finish eventually and it will die eventually and I seriously need some help with my laptop problem right now.

I don't feel like having to defend myself any more. Keep going if you want though

Decker I will always love you, but I think the other people here are just bored and feel like arguing.

We don't have an absence thread because it's nothing more than an attention ploy. Tech Support thread would be fine, but I thought we had one. If no one responds to you saying you're leaving its probably because its not a big deal.

I just think that if we need an absence thread, then god help us all, because that would mean that everybody is really fucking needy if they can't go a few days without hearing from another person. I just want to say though, that for the record, I'm not really angry at you, Decker, so much as threads like this in general. I'm not going to lie to you, it is a little bit of both, but it's more these kind of threads and less you.

Maybe it's a good idea to have a vacation/notice of absence thread so that if somebody disappears for a length of time, people don't worry unnecessarily that somebody got hit by a car and died (or something to that effect).

It's generally a decent thing to do to let people know that you're going to be absent - especially if someone who contributes a lot of art to the different threads (like Decker) may not be able to fulfil commitments to art/story threads or whatever.

I thought that's what the point of those kinds of threads were... they're not for attention grabbing.

It feels like Def and Dark are mouthing off to Decker for just trying to be polite and considerate.

Yeah, if someone who posted a lot suddenly disappeared for weeks I'd think that something terrible had happened. That being said, if there were a 'Absence Thread' I doubt many would post in it (as it would only be used for long - term absences) it would soon disappear off the front page.

I'm with Dark and Def on this one. They aren't usually ones to mouth off unless they know what they're talking about, and even now, I think it's a little harsh to call what they're doing "mouthing off".

And from a personal point of view, anyone that starts freaking out because they haven't heard from their internet buds for a day is taking the internet too seriously.

If you really need to tell people what is going on, just post it in the Unimportant topics thread. Goddamn.
